Bulging bag of water

posted 8th Jun '11
I was at the hospital earlier and i'm dilated 4 cm, 50% effaced and my bag of water is bulging. They let me go home to pack my bag, and they told me to go back in a few hours so they could check me again. My SO is taking a shower and making something to eat then we're going. What do you think they will do, just check me and send me home or will they break my water or something?

Since i've been home i've been spotting a bit more which the nurse told me to expect it because it means i'm dilating. She's convinced i'm going to have him tonight. What do you think?

I'm only contracting every 5-10 min but she said regardless I need to go back tonight even if they are 5-10 min apart still.

I waited until I was 6cm and contracting every few minutes to go back. We broke my water however I wouldn't have done it sooner or without regular contractions. If they break it and your body isn't ready enough for labor they will give you medication to make labor worse/progress you and if that doesn't work it will be a c-section.

Yeah they just told me to go back in a few hours so they could check me again. I've been regularly contracting every 5-10 minutes i'm just mentally trying to prepare myself for what could happen when I get there. I'm very excited but scared smurfless at the same time.

I'd see if you can progress more at home first. My last labor was just like this. Walk around, do some squats, have sex, see if you can encourage more dilation. The contractions after water breaking can get very painful so get in as much progress now with the easy contractions. It also lowers your chance of needing meds to help it along

i was admitted with bulging water, they broke it maybe 5 hours in, i was contracting and had high bp and protein in my urine though, thats why they ended up keeping me, but my water probably would of broke on its own soon lol

They got more intense immediately for me but i had a really easy labor and delivery so they never really got to bad until 8-9cm and then it was more like he was trying to claw his way out lol

Ah thats good but stil painful! Is it true that getting from 1-4 cm is usually the longest?

I was 1 cm at 36weeks at 3cm at my 40 wk 1day appointment so absolutely takes the longest but I was admitted the same day i had my 40wk appointment and 5cm when i came in labored for roughly 13hrs If they have a tub you can soak in id use it for the intense contractions it helped me alot so does walking makes them work alittle harder i guess made me dilate faster

Ahh I see, well hopefully I have some progress once I get there. I'm nervous about if they decide to break my water because i'd much rather him come right when he wants to but if they decide it's the best I might as well go for it. I'm just scared lol. I'm heading back there soon im very uncomfortable and I keep feeling like I have to poo lol but I think it's just my nerves and my IBS being a pain because I don't feel like pushing or anything, just normal gotta poop

Ive heard thats a normal feeling I didnt get it until i was about to push but everyone is different. Labor as long as you can at home wayy better I had to go in when we called to see what we should do they told us if we waited there was an induction coming in and they would be taking the last room available which would have made it more difficult plus my personal nurse was already in so it was easier lol. If you can labor at home till your water breaks then get cozy and go have a baby!!! lol
