Childbirth Classes

Has anyone taken any? If so, do you recommend it? Is it worth it?

I am currently taking them and I love them, so yes I would recommend them. I am already starting to feel more prepared, plus I can ask them questions that I forget to ask my dr. Also, it's really fun to meet/interact with other expecting couples and it's something really memorable for you and your s.o. to do together.

i took some...it didnt really tell me much i didnt already know... but if you dont know much about pregnancy and birth then they would be very helpful...
---it did help me with getting to know the hospital though...i learned stuffabout what they do and what the doctors do that got me a little more mentally prepared. I would reccommend them just because you never know how much you know until you go!

I'm taking them starting next month. I'm pretty much going because the last class you get to do your pre-registration paperwork which they said cuts down ALOT of stuff you need to sign while you're in labor.

I took them and I don't feel like they helped me...BUT I think it was an excellent way to get my husband involved in the whole thing. He really didn't want to read the books or watch A Baby Story, lol! So the classes were good for him. And I took ones from the hospital, so we got to tour the hospital too.

My hisband and I were required to take classes through our hospital because it was our first baby. We had fun and met 12 other couples that were all due around the samt time. Now we get together with the other families we met once a month for playdates!

It isn't mandatory to take the classes, but my OBGYN recommended taking them. We go to the hospital and get a tour and do the paperwork whenever we want to go in and do so, which will probably be in April sometime.

Thank you everyone who responded. I originally didn't want to take the classes and my husband is still on the fence, but I told him we should do it because it will be helpful. We're both first time parents and neither one of us has really had any experience with babies.

I didn't take them and I don't regret that decision. I didn't need them. I didn't tear with either of my babies or have any trouble getting them out. Pushing isn't rocket science. If there's an emergency, no childbirth class is going to prepare you for that. I personally think they're a waste of time (and money, if you have to pay for them). The only class I did take and will recommend is a breastfeeding class. Just don't let them tell you it's so easy and natural, because it's difficult and takes a lot of learning and effort on both ends.

I start my classes soon but I already don't feel like it. I'm tired after work and I'll have a class to go to but I hear it is helpful so I am going. I also have a CPR class soon too and a breastfeeding one and childcare one. I figured I would take all the classes I could and now all I want to do is sleep most of the day! LOL
