re: 18 week ultrasound...Need some reassurance

OK, Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Well, they said the white spot is nothing to due with tumors or any sort of heart defect whatsoever. They said they see those alot. However the lady did mention that they see those more in children with down syndrome. What the hell!?!?! My wife took that test, forgot the three letters, like a TFP test or something(I am sure you know the test) The test said 1 in 10000(ten thousand) would have down syndrome. They said the white spot makes it half. So we are 1 in 5000 now. Anyone know much about this? How worried should I be? A doctor came and saw us before we left and he said he was going to fax the results to my doctor and he said he was going to say that everything was perfect and a pregnancy as normal so that was some relief. Again, I appreciate all your help on this matter. Today was def. a positive for my family and I. Thanks for you support!

My mom had a baby with trisomy 18, which ended up dying at birth, tri is a lot worse then downs. I have heard a lot of people say to people they will have a downs child, when in reality those test can have false positives. The only real way to really know is an amniocentesis test? I'll keep my fingers crossed for you but it sounds like things are a lot better then you thought !!

Definatley alot better than I thought. So are you saying that the test my wife took, very well might be wrong?

If it was the blood test to determine if it has downs, yes my dr said she advised against me to do it because there are a lot False Positives so she didn't see the point,. She told me if I was really worried then to do the amniocentesis which is where they put a needle in your wife's stomach to get to the fetus. It can cause miscarriage so I told her I didn't need to know.

If the only thing left to be concerned about is a 1 in 5,000 chance of Downs, I'd say you're in GREAT shape.

We had nothing abnormal going down and our first trimester screening came up with a 1 in 4,000 chance of Downs. The doctor said that was "awesome and perfect." Way below average. And if yours is an even lower probablility, you're in good shape. I'd heave a big sigh of relief and celebrate if I were you. Congratulations!
