affording circumsision(sp)

so my obgyn told me at my last appointment that since i am having a boy and medicaid doesnt pay for it i have to have 250 dollars by next friday at my next appointment....do you think they will set up a payment plan because i have so many bills including rent due soon and i cant afford it

$250!!!!???? WOW!!!!   Ours only cost $140!! You could always ask if they'd set up a payment plan... wish I had thought of that... our car insurance is up. lol

yeah florida is rediculous and what sucks more is they JUST told me had they let me know from the moment i found out it was a boy i could have planned for it you know?

Yeah, mine was $250 and I'm on Medicaid and they didn't cover my son's, either. I would just either call your doctor and see if they can set that up, or see if you can get it done at a hospital - it's more expensive but at least you don't have to pay up front.

Not to sound like a jackass but the moment you found out you were having a boy you should have found out that information for yourself. But I can tell you I know the feeling. I will either have to pay 175 at the hospital when he's born or wait 2 weeks for his Healthease Ins. to kick in and have that pay for it. I have 6 more days to figure out what I want to do.

ok you are right but we were still up in the air about what to do...i was actually gonna type i guess i couldve asked but i didnt know medicaid didnt cover it till they told me

I'm sorry if I sounded abrasive...I really wasn't trying to. And medicaid blows balls. They used to cover circumcision until about 2 years ago. My sisters little boy was covered and he'll be 3 in May. But seeing how its a "cosmetic" thing and not necessary they won't cover it.

Good luck though...and I would do what one of the other posters said and talk to the person who does the "C" and see if they will do payment plan with you. You still have a little bit to go before you are due and saving a little here and there weekly will add up.

I just realized you're not due until the end of March....so you have time to plan things out. Just try to save money - most doctors circumcize up to a month post-pardum...others do it later than that, although it's not recommended for your son's sake.

Hey all, sorry to sound so stupid, but when did medicaid stop covering circs? I had my son two years ago in April and he was covered? Is it different by state maybe? In ohio we have medicaid then you pick out an HMO. Just wondering, you know, just in case she decides to "change"

Whne my son was born his doctor talked to me before she did it and said that she knows its expensive, so she could file it as a misc. hospital expense on my bill. It worked, and my insurance paid it without question.

so lame. i just found out that circumcision is the ONLY thing that medical doesnt pay for and my doctor charges $200. but on the other hand, that is the ONLY thing that my husband and I will have to pay for. but we cant even be in the room when its happening.

ever consider just not doing it? Its not a necissary procedure. I had my son done and It was awful, his little peni was ...well it looked painful.
