Dogs

I was really close to my dog before my son was born, but she kind of gets on my nerves now. I feel bad about it but now that I have a real baby I see how people get mad at people that treat their pets like kids. The main thing that bothers me is that she barks so much for no reason and always wakes the baby up. We have a backyard so she goes outside whenever she needs too, but she still pees nad poopsinside in sneaky spots. She is a small dog so it is hard to find sometimes. It makes me so mad b/c my son crawls on the floor. I feel bad getting really mad at her b/c she used to be # 1 to me and now my son took her spot and he will remain there. Does anyone else have this problem or am I just a meandog owner?

I feel the same!! I rescued a dachshund in August of 2006 and got pregnant the next month... she was my number one, I always was with her and worried over her. I didn't buy her clothes or anything like that (except a sweater in the winter... she's old and has arthritis), but she did sleep on my bed occasionally and I took her on walks all the time.

Now... she is soooo annoying. She barks for stupid reasons and just gets in the way. I hate this. I felt like giving her to a loving home, but she took off one night and it made me realize how much I still love her. We found her the next morning, but still. Now... when I feel like throwing her (although I NEVER would) I just hink about it and call her over.

Well I am only due (with our first) in May so I don't know but I am worried, my dogs spend their lives barking and it has become a worry point, I don't know how I will handle them once my little girl gets here..... I will always love them but I know they are going to drive me nuts.

i have a 4 month old yorkie who requires so much attention and is soo hyper that i can already tell he is going to cause problems in may when my daughter gets here. I love my dog to death, but i feel like i wont be able to give him the attention he needs, and he will probably annoy me =/.

I have a dog and after the baby came all he seems to do is get on my nerves and feels like im constantly yelling at him cause he knocks over the baby and when we are playing with the baby he gets so jealous and tries to push her out of the way with his body.... and it seems like he misbehaves alot more since she came... and i can only imagine how much worse its going to be with the new one coming. I want to get rid of him.... cause he gets a little snappy sometimes... but he is more afraid of my daughter then ne thing.... and i dont know if i should get rid of him... my bf loves him so much... and its his first dog

That is nice of you to rescue a dog. I would miss my dog too if she was gone. Although, some days I don't know.

it just sounds to me like your priorities are where they should be. my husband is struggling with where to place his dog now that we are having a child. it has taken a whole lot to get him to realise that a dog that hates children isn't going to fit into our plans. he's expressed a number of times that the dog has been his family and it's been difficult for him to come to terms with the fact that he's having a real family now. good luck and let me just tell you what i tell him.

there are many good homes that would love to have your dog.

i have a boxer and a black lab and before the baby they were the center of our attention, always going on walks, playing fetch..etc... now, they're a pain in the ass, jumping on the bed , barking, shaking their ears, waking the baby up and making me so mad! They were always getting petted and kissed by me and now i never pet them, i feel really bad but thats just how it goes i guess... when he starts crawling i'm going to have to vacuume every single day b/c of how bad the shedding is.. i've thought of getting rid of them a few times but my hubby loves them and still does spend quite a good amount of time with them.. i just cant wait for Addison to grow up and pull their doggy tails and doggy ears haha.. kidding, i'll tell him no ;)

my hubs old dog had to be put down a month or two ago due to cancer, but i think his rents were gonna give him away before they found out about teh cancer

if your dogs are good natured then thats great, as you were saying ashley about pulling the dogs tails, some dogs dont mind that at all, but if Leo did that to Bruno, Bruno would have tried to maul Leo face off

Ohh I'm so glad I don't have a dog... I have cats and they are still as loved as before we had the baby. I don't think I would ever want a dog though, they are so annoying.

A friend of mine told me that her feelings towards her dog changed once she had a baby too.She saidshe just didn't have the energy to be loving to the dog and the baby.In addition, she also was annoyedby the barking that would wake up the baby. However, she said after a year her feelings changed and she loved her dog again. I guess it took that long for everything to settle down. My suggestion is to let your husband show the dog affection and try to wait out the first year.

However, she is really good with our son. She brings her toys over to him to play. Which is nice put still annoying b/c her toys are germy and he trys to put them in his mouth.. Xavier loves the dog, he laughs when she barks and he even makes barking noises, he crawls after her, and pets her. Right, now we are keeping her confined to one area to control the house breaking issues. I have a feeling that when Xavier gets older they are going to be really close and he is going to help out with her a lot, but she is a very girly looking dog.

I think I will wait to see how things turn out because she is good with our son.

My dog is a maltese she looks just like a Yorkie but all white so on top of her wanting a lot of attention she needs lots of baths. Wwhen you give my dog a bath you have to blow dry her until she is fully dry or else her hair gets matted, blow drying her takes at least an hour.
