Something for everyone...

My husband and I are expecting our first one in May and everyone wants to be involved. We want it to be a nice relaxing peaceful experience as we are having a home birth with him, my mum, our doula and our midwife. We are trying to think of ways that everyone in our familes can be involved without being at the birth! The biggest problem is that everyone wants to see the baby pretty much as soon as it leaves my body but since this is our first birth we have no idea what to expect and are thinking we are going to want some alone time as a family and most definately some serious rest time to being with so the best thing would be for them to be able to stop by for a QUICK visit and also in the process feel like they helped out! We don't want to step on anyone's toes but we also want them to be remided that it's our special time. Any suggestions????

If they have access to computers, are you oppsed to giving birth on a webcam? I know that may sound weird, but I remember someone talking about it on here.

I had my baby at the hospital but it was just me and my hubby. I made family/friends wait until after the baby was born and we were settled to come see. I just wanted things to be as relaxing as possible and you need a little bit alone with the baby for bonding and everything. I would keep them posted as to what's going on but nicely ask that they remain at home until you call and let them know they can come visit. Birthing is hard work and you don't want to be overwhelmed with a crowd of people.

You are gonna want some time to rest and have private time with ur hubby and baby. For me they would just have to wait. We are having our son at the hospital but its just gonna be me my hubs and my mom ... and the doc and nurse of course.

And TRUST me... LOL,,, the may think they want to see it as soon as i leaves ur body.... but they probably really dont. LOL Hey, maybe if u let them see this one and offer to let everyone hold the squirmy, musocsy, bloody, baby... they wont be so eager to invade ur space next time. LOL

I know they just want to be involved b/c they are excited... but you are the mother... and what u say goes. You will need time with ur new baby... and time to rest. Id change the answering machine to something like.we are bondingas our new family and well call you back once were all rested up. or well be takin visitors next week so mom and baby can rest... or at least a day or two. let u adjust

Wow, yeah... I love my family. but NO one is coming in that room but my hubby and mom... and mom is really there incase my hubs starts to freak. LOL
mom is mom... but its not a show for everyone.

this is a hard situation because everyone really does want to be there but you gotta do what you have to. i gave in an let my mom be in the delievery room she took over and its just a bad situation she thought she was in control but it was suppose to be me and my husband an baby time but it wasnt an it didnt ruin the exprience of course just made it different from what i thought it would be . but in the hospital that night it was so nice to just be my new lil family. good luck !

i agree. I really hope we get to come home ALONE... us 3. and not followed by my folks and then followed home and in the house etc. She even mentioned if something happened and we HAD to take her van.. I was like NO we ... (my hubby and I ) are taking my truck... the carseat and all our bags are in it. Not to mention im not 14.   **sign** but she just wants to help. I hope i dont kill her in the delivery room.

Yeah that's why I didn't let my mom in the room. She is awesome but she's the kind of person who thinks she knows everything and nobody can tell her otherwise. I was afraid she'd be ordering the dr around and telling me what to do too lol.

THATS WHAT MY MOM DID ! omg lol she laid the guilt trip on me so i let her i turned my dad down because AKWARD but ever since the birth of my baby she has been a control freak i actually had to move out because she started acting like my daughters mom with all her control freakness.
