I was in a thread the other day. I sorta had the same insight as you though. I hear all the stories of bad owners. I also see the ones that were totally wonderful with everyone then went off one day. I don't think it is worth the risk. I know any dog of any breed can go nutzo, but most don't attack like pits do.

Not that I am racist towards dogs, of course. I wouldn't let my baby around any dog unless i knew it - and even then i would never leave them alone together.
My cheasepeake bay retriever is the gentlest dog i know but i caught her snapping at a 10 year old who pulled her taila few too many times. Animals have bad days just like me (for the record, i've snapped at this 10 year old, too) But pits do have a reputation and (especially in the Flint, MI) there tend to be alot of them raised in bad circumstances, like for fighting and stuff. It's just safer not to, y'know?

i do agree that it is how they are raised i just wouldnt feel comfortable letting my small child play with them.

i grew up with about 4 differnt dogs *two at a time* and the worst of them all? the cute little dog we got from the puppy store- he came from a puppy mill and was terrified so he was angry. I also had a pointer- a hunting dog- she was raised from a puppy and was very loveable and trusted never ever would she bite anyone!

hah sounds like my dogs, my pit is the sweetest thing ever, she's never aggresive, in fact she let's my little Dauchsund beat her up all the time and all she does is lick her.

she actually submitts at feeding time, we have a boston terrier and a dachsund and they both make her wait to eat, so she sits back at a distance until her turn.

That's cute... that's how my german shephards are with my sister's 5lb yorkie. They are real good with small dogs.

My hubby & I have a wonderful pit and I can't wait to introduce her to her little brother/sister. She adores children, and while she'll probably have to be tought manners (cause she doens't know her own strength), I have no doubts at all that she will be great with our baby.

Yepp my pitt babies my too puppies and is so gentle with them. And they are not even as tall as her knees. lol

I wouldn't feel comfortable letting a small child play with any dog that I didn't know. chihuahua, yorkie, pitt you should always supervise a child around a dog anyways. Dogs always show signs before they lose it

Aww she's all black and looks liek she has black eyes... pitbulls are one of my favorite breeds by far!

Lol i know what u mean! My sister's yorkie is about the size of their head! My dogs just lay on their backs and let my sis dog just hop all over them. It's cute =)

I said not neccessarily true. Because Some dogs will turn on you because that aggressive trait is in there blood. I'm not saying all do. You and a lot of other people were just blessed to have lovable dogs.
The same goes for humans with alcohol and serial killers and rapist. There has been studies done.

BUt most dogs will stop attacking at some point. Pits don't let go.

I like pitts but I LOVE boxers!! We had a boxer named Tyson when I was growing up and my brother was bothering him to much so he put his face right into my brothers and just barked once really loud and laid back down. We all got the point haha
