re: ibuprofen

i didn't read the entire thread. i just responded to the original post.

fetal risks:

-No adequate human data in 1st trimester exposure but reported doubtful association with some congenital anomalies (anencephaly, cerebral palsy, microphthalmia, nasal cleft, and tooth staining) and fetal death.
-Use of the drug in 3rd trimester causes constriction of ductus arteriosus with subsequent pulmonary hypertension and oligohydramnios by affecting fetal renal function.
-Inhibits labor, prolongs pregnancy.

I have been having contractions for almost 24 hours...they were about 15 minute apart. I just got off the phone with my doctor and he told me to take Ibuprofen now and some in 12 hours. He told me not to take any more after than so I would talk to your doctor first. I, too, had heard that IB is not good during pregnancy but I trust my doctor knows what he is doing!

I have the same problem with Tylenol it does absolutely nothing. I also get migraines pretty bad. I talked to my doctor with both pregnancies and because I am allergic to Codine I was told to take ibeprophen if I am starting to get a migraine to see if I can't nip it in the but before it gets bad, cause my doc would rather I take ibeprophen than have to take morphine. Though I try my hardest to go without any meds sometimes it's necessary. So talk to your doctor it will really be specific to your circumstances.

Is tylenol some american thing? I've never heard of it..anyway Ibuprofen is a no no....do paracetamol help u? I just got over a cold and i had to take paracetamol thats all i could take.....good luck xx

Ib is ok during your first two trimesters. It is a class B. During the third trimester it becomes a class C drug and IS NOT safe.

thank you all ladies.. all of your advice has kind of helped me. I did ask a doctor and he said it was okay for me as long as i don't take it in excess. but just so all of you do know its alright in the first two trimesters...thanks agian

Tylenol is the brand name for acetometaphin (sp?)
