bloody show?

posted 9th Feb
Yesterday at my 39 week appointment during my exam my midwife stretched my cervix (like she always does) and this time she told me that I had a little bit of a bloody show and that I'd bleed for the rest of the night probably and then have brown discharge the next day. She also told me that I'm 3 cm and the baby has dropped a lot more and she thinks that I'll go this weekend. When she said bloody show do you think she meant my actual bloody show or she just made me bleed?? It wasn't just like straight blood.. it had like mucousy chunks in it (tmi).

she said that my bleeding was caused by blood vessels popping and breaking. is that what your bloody show is?

I just read something that also linked blood vessels popping and your bloody show together. So I wonder if that's what your bloody show is. They said that when your cervix gets really sensitive your blood vessels burst and something about a bloody show.

I know some straightspotting after an exam (especially if she was stretching you) would be normal because you can have aggrivated blood vessels. If it was accompanied by a thick mucus streaked with brown, pink, or red blood it was probably your mucus plug, which is commonly refered to as a bloody show.

Quoting lilmrsmchenry:“ I know some straightspotting after an exam (especially if she was stretching you) would be normal because ... [snip!] ... mucus streaked with brown, pink, or red blood it was probably your mucus plug, which is commonly refered to as a bloody show.”

well after i wipped after the exam there was like strings of bloody mucous coming out. and now it's just like a brown discharge.
