re: why do you see many girls smoking while pregnant ?

I smoked, and when I found out I was pregnant it took me about 2 weeks to completely quit... I found out just in March.. and its still hard. But I knew what the consequences would be and if something ever happend to my baby b.c of my habits... I would never be able to live w/ myself. its hard but definately possible.

with my first pregnancy in 2006 i was a smoker. i didnt know i was pregnant until i was 4 months preggo. so at my first prenatal visit i told them ismoked and had been smoking before i knew. i was worried that i had hurt my baby in some way shape or form. she was just fine. and i dont know if its just the doctores where im from < jacksonville fl> who believe this but she said if i cant quit to just limit my ciggs a day. because my baby was used to nicotine this long and the withdrawl would stress her. im like wtf are you serious doc says yeah.so thats waht i did and on Nov 4th 2006 i had my lil girl she was a healthy 6 pounds 12 ounces with no kinda complications what so ever i had her at 39 weeks 4 days right on time. her due date was nov 6th 2006. so hey i dunno

i used to smoke. when i was taking the pregnancy test i was smoking a cig and as soon as "pregnant" popped up i put it out. i guess i just wanted to motivation to quit. now whenever i walk past smoke it makes my stomach weak. i hate the smell of cigarettes. just thinking about smoking one makes me think about throwing up (although ihave notthrown up since ive been pregnant). And even after the baby i dont want to go back, that 4 dollars a day could go towards the baby, and second hand smoke is NOT good for a kid. even if you smoke outside the smell is still on your clothes.

I don't think it's fair for other people to judge others! I'm actually in the process of quitting and can't go cold turkey....I'm not selfish...and i did Have the plan to just quit when i found out i was pregnant..i did really Well for awhilebut my boyfriend and family smoke so i'm always around it! thats not an excuse but it DOES make it harder!i'm in the process oftaking stepswith my doctor and looking intoother alternatives to just quitting such as patches to cut me down to none! I only have the baby's best interest right now AND Its the hardest thing i;ve ever had to stop doing in my life...some people just have harder times with addictive substances than others!

lol i agreee i quit as soon as i found out right then and their i had smoked for 5 yrs and i havent and will never go back i like the extra money lol

UGH! I've been smoking since i was very young .lol. (only 19) .since well i think 12 or 13. .I was up to two packs a day. Before i hit 18.

I know everyone is going to look down on me, but i smoked up until 5 months. I know it sounds horrible.!!. ANd i could make up many excuses to why i didn't quit. i was under a lot of stress. mY mom was diagnosed with cancer. It was pretty devistating. I couldnt take it you know. MY best friend. Cancer. What the F. But my OB/gyn says my baby is healthy/ has a strong heart beat. and weights about 5 to six pounds. AND i still crave a cigarette every now and again. and for people to have never picked up a cig to get addicted. Great job. and you also don't know how hard it is to quit. So its really not your place to judge anyone!

my doctor also said the same thing. She said if i go through stress. Its hurting the baby twice as bad .you know

I AGREE WITH YOU!! totatlly. LIke i said in my other post. that i still crave a cig. sometimes .. i just get way to stressed with everything and i need to have a hit of one. and yeah, everyone around me smokes also. SO i know how hard it is. GOOD luck. and i wish you thebest.

i stopped smoking cold turkey as soon as i found out i was preggo..Then maybe 3 months after she was born i started again.Not proud of it, but It takes me and my hubby 4 days to kill a pack, and we never smoke a whole one, we just bust eachother down

Sorry...I didnt really understand what you said? I dont smoke around the baby, we go outside, my mom might watch her or someting.

You would be surprised how many woman do..I was happy that i quit when i found out i was having her..But being around it so much afterwards, and holding off, but me being stupid and going outside with him, made it harder to resist..Saying you want toquit, and then doing it..Hard.

Because selfish. I quit cold turkey the day I found out I was pregnant after smoking a box a day for a little over a year & haven't & won't start up ever again. It wasn't easy but it can be done so as far as I'm concerned nobody has any excuse for endangering the life of their unborn baby.

smoking cuts off oxygen in the placenta. that's why babies of mothers who smoke come out small.
their little lungs haven't even fully developed. let them wait till they are eighteen to see if they want to smoke or not. they dont have a choice right now.

i dont know if it's true but i've also heard babies of smoking mothers have a higher chance of Asama. and possibly lung cancer in the future.

dont try to make your child a test baby. better safe than sorry (:
