has anyone had an abortion, but the baby survived?

posted 28th Apr '11
I'm just wondering how often that happens. I didn't think it was possible, but I've heard stories about it.

If anyone on here has had that experience, would you mind sharing?

i've never heard about it happening on here.
i've read a few articles about it however.

but, most women having abortions aren't having late term abortions in which the baby would survive.

I've seen a book (true story) written about it. The baby survived and grew up and then wrote a book about it. It was a late term abortion though.

When I read the articles, I'm not sure it specified when in the pregnancy it was done. If it did, I obviously missed it lol. So, late term is only when that happens?

I've watched her video on Youtube. I remember she was religious as smurf too.

well, a fetus isn't viable until around 24 weeks... most women have abortions before 12 weeks...
i think late term is considered after the age of viability.

I think that mostly happens in late term abortions and I haven't heard of that happening in years. The one lady who survived is in her thirties now and I'm sure things weren't as advanced as they are now. Abortions performed early on rip the baby apart and then they are sucked out, I don't think they have a chance at life then.

Only a late term abortion would be after the point of viability when it would be possible for a fetus to survive outside of the womb

A friend in High school, his Mom tried to have an abortion, fairly early on, they figure that he'd been a twin, & the baby they "Got" was his twin. With that thing for a Mom though the Twin was probably the lucky one!
Part of the reason they tried aborting was because she had an IUD, well he was born with that in his skull. So there was Loads of Epic fail there.

I'm no doctor, but in the stories I've come across for women who terminated late in pregnancy, the procedure included a medicine injected into the fetus to stop it's heart, before a D&E.
So it's unlikely it happens anymore. Not impossible though.

Back in the 70s,the process was different.I could see it happeniong more often back then.

The person who survived, were they born with any defects? Probably a really stupid question, but I'm curious.
