My baby is here! Labor story

Well, we're finally home from the hospital. Austins been up all night and I'm pretty tired so please bear with me it may not make a lot of sense
Saturday morning we went up to labor and delivery to start our induction at 0800. We were checked in, and they placed the first cytotec pill at 0930. I had been having contractions 5 minutes apart for the past two days, but they weren't painful. I was dilated 2 cm and 50% effaced when they placed the first cytotec. About 40 minutes after the pill was placed, I started to feel some pain with my contractions. Not a lot, but enough to know the pill was doing something. At 1230 the nurse checked me, I was still 2cm but things were starting to ripen up. Contractions kept getting stronger. She placed a 2nd cytotec, even though she probably didn't need to since my body was kind of taking over at that point. After the 2nd cytotec, things were getting even more painful and closer together. I spent some time walking around, soaking in the birthing tub, and on the birthing ball to relieve the pain. It pretty much did the trick, which was nice because my midwife didn't want me to even think about pain meds until I was dilated to 4.
At 1530 my midwife checked me, and told me I was dilated to 3 (almost 4), 75% effaced, and my bag of waters was starting to bulge. So she broke my water to get things going, instead of using pitocin.
After she broke my water, things really got intense. Contractions were about 2 minutes apart and getting more and more painful. By the time 1900 rolled around I couldn't deal with the pain anymore. I thought my body was going to split in half. So the nurse came in with some stadol for the pain. Turns out, I am allergic to stadol which she realized just before she gave it to me. So my midwife paged the anesthesiologist for the epidural.
The anesthesiologist came in about 2000. Andy and my midwife helped me set up in bed so he could place the epidural. It sucked because I had to hold perfectly still in order for him to get it in the right spot, but the contractions were so intense that thrashing around was about the only relief I could get. Instead all I could do was breathe through the contractions. Not as hard to do as I though, but that's on account of I REALLY wanted that epidural.
Once I got the epidural in, things were smooth sailing and I was a happy happy girl. Everything was looking really great. As of 2230 I was dilated to 5cm. So Andy and I tried getting a little shut eye, we had already been up 29 hours at the time. We managed to rest for an hour or two, when Austins heartrate dropped from 160bpm to 60. Within about 10 seconds (seriously, it really was that quick), we had 5 nurses, my midwife, and a doctor rushing in my room. They put me on my left side, put an oxygen mask on me, and tried getting the babies heart rate up. It took about 5 minutes but they got his rate back up somewhere around 140. They had a crew all set to wheel me down for a c-section in case anything else happened, and everybody changed into surgical scrubs, including Andy. Just in case. Things went fine after that, but I always had somebody nearby.
Andy and I were able to rest until about 0400 when I called my nurse because I was feeling some new sensations and a lot of pressure. She had my midwife come in, she checked me, and I was ready to push.
Pushing part was pretty easy, because I couldn't feel much, so it didn't hurt at all. I pushed for about an hour and 40 minutes. Andy was with me the whole time holding my hand. He was getting very excited which made me push even harder.
Austin Jeffrey Ackerman was born February 3rd at 0542 weighing 8 pounds 4 ounces and 22 inches long. As soon as he was born they layed him on my chest to clean him and check him out. I was so exhausted I could barely take it all in. Andy was teary eyed and very very happy.
All in all things went beautifully. I did end up needing about 8 stitches. I feel pretty good now, except for the stitches which do hurt quite badly. I'm pretty tired also.. But very very happy to be home. Everything is great, and Andy and I are very happy. We absolutely love austin, he's way more than what we could have ever asked for.
