Getting rid of bottle

posted 3rd Feb '08
I think Zoey is ready to get rid of the bottle, we have to ask her if she wants one anymore she never crys for one. Yesterday she had one in the morning and then in the afternoon I gave her some formula in her sippy cup and she was fine. I am just a little unsure of how to wean her. SHe was getting three bottles a day, should I just start taking one away at a time or stop them altogether? I want to make sure she is still getting enough formula. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Zoey....I love that name!

I would try to not give it to her then....some babies are just done before others.....besides a sippy cup works faster than a bottle! She doesnt have to work as hard.

Take a day and offer her cups of formula.....you'll have an idea if she wants her bottle.

One thing that helped us getting my Joey off the bottle was one of those bottles with the handles and the sippie cup type of nozzles [we got it at Walmart]. It helped ween him from the bottle, and one day we decided to give him a cup, and he took right to it.

When she's thirsty just give her a sippy cup and not even pull a bottle out, if she really wants it she'll let you know   I tried that with my first and she never cried for her bottle, she liked sippy cups better

Quoting Zoey's Mommy:“ I think Zoey is ready to get rid of the bottle, we have to ask her if she wants one anymore she never ... [snip!] ... them altogether? I want to make sure she is still getting enough formula. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks”
i started by taking away the morning bottle then a week later i did the afternoon and eventually he was ok with a sippy cup all of the time. the younger they are the better. if you wait to long they get more attached and its harder to wean

If she is fine taking liquid in a sippy cup then let her! Sounds like you will get rid of the bottle easily!! Your lucky!

Honestly, just start giving her themilk in a sippy. She'll cry, but you have to be the strong one. One thing that I think worked for us, was to make her sippy for milk and juice and yummy stuff and her bottle for water only. Once Katelyn realized that the good stuff was in her sippy, she didn't want her bottle and she was only 10 months. The longer you let it go on the harder it will be though.

Zoey has been doing really well, we are down to just one bottle at night before she goes to bed. I am hoping to get rid of that one before her 1 year appointment next month. The doctor wants us to get rid of the binky as well so that will be my next project! lol
