Curious about STRETCH MARKS

posted 2nd Feb '08
So, I'm about 22 weeks and I don't have any stretch marks yet, but I was just wondering at what point some of you got stretch marks, and if you had been taking any preventative measures BEFORE getting the marks.  Were you using any lotions or oils or belly butters?

I don't have any yet either...but I have been using palmers cocoa butter lotion and oil every day religiously.
I think most women start toget them around 32-36 weeks...if they get them at all

Well, maybe you will be one of the lucky ones! I went my entire pregnancy without any, then my LAST week I got like 5... They have faded alot though. I just put lotion on my belly when I got out of the shower every morning, so I think that helped, because I have seen women with way worse than I had! Good Luck!

24 weeks and I used lotion. But I've gotten stretch marks before (during puberty and such) and my mom got them during her pregnancies, so it's not a shock. But they make me sad  !

With my first pregnancy, I didn't get any stretch marks on my abdomen. I have 4 small ones on my inner thighs.. 2 on each leg. I used a lot of cream & lotion before getting preggo & during. I used a variety of cocoa butters... some were from bathy & body works, one was that palmer's stuff.

During this pregnancy, at 26 weeks, I have no stretch marks, yet. I hoping to not get any, again. However, if I do there is nothing I can do about it. I will still use lotions/creams because my skin is itchy and the lotions help with that. This time around, I really do like the Burt's Bees, Mama Bee cream and I rub Vaseline all over my belly & sides while in the shower. It really helps hold in the moisture.

Strechmarks are mostly genetic. If you mom has them, or if you have some of your own, there is NO way to prevent them

But you can make them feel better with pretty much any lotion. I just started getting them and I'm 28 weeks.

strech marks are heireditary. it has to do with not the moisture of your skin but the elasticity of it. if your mom has them you proably will get them. lotions are great for moisture but your dr. will tell you it will not stop strech marks.

I'm using the Burt's Bees Mama Butter too, and I really like it

I already had stretch marks on my hips and inner thighs, just from being so tall (6'1") and not being a stick figure.  My mom didn't get any marks on her tummy, so I'm hoping that a good indicator that I won't either.

My mom never got stretchmarks either but since puberty, I've had them as well. And now I have some light ones on my tummy and hips. I know they aren't big and as long asI don't look at them, I'm happy

i pretty much bathed in cocoa butter and at about 25 weeks they started to slowly appear. two weeks later i was covered in them! it happened sooooo fast. i'm still using cocoa butter but it soooo is not working. my doctor made a smart ass comment about them at my last visit and i wanted to punch her!

i seriously doubt any of the creams are going to do anything to prevent stretchmarks... though they'll make you smell nice and feel soft.

it has everything to do w/ the elasticity of your skin and how quickly it's being stretched.

to date (nearly 33 weeks), i have none. i got stretchmarks during puberty on my inner thighs and really tiny ones which i only discovered years later on my outer hips.

i've been running for nearly five years now and decided to continue running throughout my pregnancy -- to stay healthy and in an effort to keep my muscles toned around my abdomen and not have my skin stretch too rapidly-- which is why you get the stretch marks. i am hoping against hope that i do not get them b/c of this.

ask me in six more weeks.
