Quoting ambupie:“ i pretty much bathed in cocoa butter and at about 25 weeks they started to slowly appear. two weeks later ... [snip!] ... butter but it soooo is not working. my doctor made a smart ass comment about them at my last visit and i wanted to punch her!”

WHAT?!?!  What did your doctor say???  Ya know, I respect doctors and am very thankful that someone had the patience to sit through years of med school, but, I will say that most doctors I have encountered have the worst bedside manner ever.  Ugh!!!

i use burts bees mama butter as well and it doesnt work for me. i dont think lotions and other fancy stuff help or prevent it. like some of the other girls said, its genetic. youre gonna get them or you wont because of genetics, not the lotions you use.

I started getting mine at 35 weeks. It WAS just a few, very small, faint marks on my boobs...they are now everywhere. I have them on my thighs, hips, butt, belly, behind my knees even, and even more on my boobs. I put on some St. Ives Vitamin E lotion beforehand, but not religiously.

she looked at them and said, rather snootily, "oh i see youre not doing anything to prevent them." i said "actually i use cocoa butter everyday."

I thought doctors "know" they aren't preventable.  Hmmm...I might've slapped her, with all the hormones I've got raging inside of me...

My mother's abdomen looks like Freddy Kruger (sp?) got to it. I was fully expecting to have them, but got lucky. I must have more elastic skin than her. I know my skin is very sensitive, which is why I have always been a lotion fanatic.

I didnt geta single one with my son, and with my daughter, I didnt get any until I was about 34 weeks. And those girls are right, no cream or lotion is going to prevent those stretch marks from coming. The logic of it all doesnt add up anyways, so I dont see why some people think it works.

Quoting jude's mama:“ So, I'm about 22 weeks and I don't have any stretch marks yet, but I was just wondering at what point ... [snip!] ... you had been taking any preventative measures BEFORE getting the marks. Were you using any lotions or oils or belly butters? ”

honestly since everyone is different, you may not even get stretch marks. I never did on my belly at least but i did get some on my butt. I used some shea butter everynight before bed on my belly. the honest truth though is that all that stuff doesnt really prevent stretchmarks its sometimes the factor of how dry your skin is when its stretching or at least thats what my dr told me. but who knows

I use Bio Oil that i bought at walmart for about 11$ After I shower or bathe I rub it in, in all directions for about 5 minutes twice a day. I'm at 34 weeks and I have some stretch marks but the oil seems to make a difference in the appearance of them temporarily, now. Also massage is good for fading skin scars long term so I will continue doing this after baby comes to try and break up some of that tissue in there. hope that helps you alittle bit!

i'm almost 31 weeks & i don't have any pregnancy stretch marks. i have some on my hips & thighs from when i was growing up though. at the end of my shower i rub baby oil all over my belly & then pat it dry. i also use palmer's stretch mark concentrated cream.

Although I have been using belly cream I'm still getting them on my hips so far and probably have more coming. It's genetics so there isn't much you can do.

Lucky girl, mama    I'm afraid if I use baby oil I will stain all of my shirts...does that happen at all?

Some people get lucky and avoid them entirely, while others get them and eventually they fade. Me personally, I've got a few across the front of my belly and I havent really gained any more... I'm hoping that I'll stay lucky enough to just have the few on each side of my belly button and that's it. Otherwise, I've heard cocoa butter lotion can help, but personally it's done nothing for me, with the exception of helping with my dry skin.

So I just got my first stretch mark. Woke up this morning and I just reached 28 weeks. I've heard mixed reviews about when you might get them. I've been using Vitamin E and palmers stretch mark formula lotion. with cocoa butter.
