"White Women want Black Babies and Black Women want White Ba

posted 14th Apr '11
Hey BG ladies I hope everyone is enjoying their Thursday it is so close to the weekend so I just wish everybody well. Ok, so I always seem to have bizarre conversations with random people and this particular conversation really disturbed me. So, I was at the doctor's office with my MIL and my baby for a follow-up due to when she had the stomach flu. There was this woman; her nationality I am unsure of but because of her accent I am going to say she was maybe Indian (don't quote me I am unsure) Anyways when we entered the dr's office I noticed she kept staring at my MIL who is Mexican, me I am Black, and my daughter who is Mexican and Black. The woman started off saying how pretty my daughter was etc...and that I was "lucky". I said "lucky for what"? She said "your lucky your daughter came out the way she did" I said "and how is that"? This woman had the nerve to say "Well she's so pretty...she has the light skin and pretty hair and your so lucky"! My head almost blew off my neck I was so angry at what she was implying. To top it off she said "you know so many black women that have babies with a white guy or chinese, etc always want their children to look mixed...they don't want them to look "black" and vice versa for white women that have babies with black men they always want them to come out looking "black" and not white!" After she said this I kindly told her "the worst thing you can do is this world is show how ignorant you can be and you clearly are a very ignorant woman" and I grabbed my daughter and went to other side of the waiting room with my MIL because I cannot stand to be around ignorant, rude people. So, it has me thinking how many of you women that have biracial babies or know someone with biracial kids that exercise the behavior of what this woman described to me? Do you know any women that put a huge emphasis on wanting their kids to look "mixed" or have that "nice hair"? And if their child comes out looking a certain way like "not mixed" do they seem to be disappointed? (This is for all races not just limited to black and white!)
Thanks

My mom is white, step dad black, bro and sis obviously mixed. My mom wishes they looked more like her b/c she always got comments about she must be the babysitter and not the parent

And now that they are teens, my bro and sis (well, maybe just sis) really wishes she looked white. She despises the black in her. Yet all her white friends think she is GAW-geous and want to tan dark so they look like her.

I think it's "grass is greener" syndrome.

It's weird to me that people have the nerve to say the things they do... Maybe it's a cultural difference...?

Quoting Mrs. Dexter Morgan:" Yes, like 'bi racial baby maker'. Ok, I'm starting a new one.....'white baby maker'."

I'm not used to the whole biracial baby maker thing. The first time I ever heard of a biracial relationship is on BG. I'm from The Netherlands and we don't even have a word in Dutch for it. I'm just not used to the whole racial thing in general. So that's why I dislike it when people call themselves that biracial baby makers. Yes, you make lovely children. Does the color of their skin/race really matter.

But to get back to your point OP. I think you're right. And it's absolutely insane. I notice this when I talk to people too and I was gobsmacked.

I am black/native and my hubby is white. It would not matter how my kids came out because they are my kids. I didn't pick a white man for white babies. If you see my pic I am really light. I am lighter than my mixed kids and white hubby.

If I had a child with a black man, I would want it to have like olive or medium color skin. Like a mixture of white and black - not too white, not too black.
Like maybe this baby's color

I know a girl who has mixed kids, she's white and the daddy is black and those kids don't even look like they have an ounce of white in them. She was happy about it. She didn't want them to look white what-so-ever. She wanted them to be really dark.

What annoys me worse than the color issue, is girls who have babies outside of their race and they that the baby's name has to be 100% the other race. Like white girls who have black/white babies they HAVE to name them something like Latrayvon or if the daddy was mexican or something, they'd have to name it something like Pedro - lol IDK but I've seen a lot of stuff on here in the baby names section saying like "Biracial baby name" "Mexican boy name"...etc. I don't know why a child has to have a "race" name, like why can't they just have something normal that anyone would use?
