To flip this around I am a really light skin black girl, both of my parents are darker brown. I feel weird at family reunions because only me and one aunt are really light. I feel out of place. I hate when people are touching my hair because I have really curly hair. I hate feeling like I don't belong in my own family.

like mrs von t said, i understand it, but i don't agree with it. of course there are things that we don't like about ourselves, but we can't start hating ourselves or letting other people's comments get to us. i could relax my hair, and get plastic surgery, but i choose to accept it and love myself (for the most part) because my features are part of who i am. just as i'll have to accept the fact that i'll never have a nice ghetto booty LOL (but i'll be in the gym trying).

My kids father is black, as I stated and they look almost white for the most part. So I know their day will come when kids question their race as they grow up. But, you shouldn't feel out of place, your just lighter skin then your other family members. Your beautiful!

Yea but sometimes they make me feel out of place. Like it is my fault that I was born light skinned. When I tell people I am black they look at me like I am crazy.

Well of course you should accept it. All women should. But the truth is, most women will never be completely 100% satisfied with how they look.

What I think is sad is black women bleaching their skin... like Tyra had on there. Like these women were crying because they want to be lighter. But, I guess it's the same as white women tanning. IDK. I tan just because I can't stand to be so freakin white that I'm glowin!

Well that sucks, that's your family members too. I hate that you feel that way girl. Just keep that pretty head up  you never know, they just may have wanted to be blessed with your skin tone;)

Oh I definitely hear you on that. I think it's unfortunate, but it really is important to have those discussions with people and ask them how they reach these conclusions. I so want to keep typing and being in this conversation but I gotta go get ready for dinner with the inlaws. But I think it's a really interesting topic!

Sadly, mom is like that. My little brother is half black and he's beautiful, but she constantly talked about 'Because he's black' to everything lmao.

We have an asian couple in our Ward whose daughter has blue eyes   we also have a Bi racial couple in our ward, mother is white, father is black, they have 3 children who are darker like their father, but have their mothers blue eyes.

When my ex (white) and I (black) started dating, he seemed obsessed over what our kids would look like. No more white "jungle-fever" guys for me, lol.

Honestly, as a single black woman with no kids or a mate, race is the furthest thing from my mind. Regardless of what race my sperm donor is from, my children will be considered black by most Americans. All I ask is for beautiful healthy children and they'll probably be fully black.

As for "black" names, I find that statement to be very ignorant. I have GREEK, ENGLISH, NATIVE AMERICAN names picked out for my BLACK babies. I have an India Indian name, my parents and brothers have English names.

Regarding your ex, I remember several years ago when I first started dating my now-husband (he is White), my dad gave me a book about White men who date women of colour because of the "exotic" factor and other reasons. I remember being very offended by my dad giving me that book, because I knew DH wasn't like that. However, there really are men out there who only go for women of colour because they are "exotic," are "different," etc.... basically for all the wrong reasons. I wish I remembered the name of that book because it was actually interesting, looking back on it.

I live in Korea and it's common here for Caucasian babies to get fawned over, much more than their own. I've heard that the Koreans think white babies are good luck, not sure if there's much truth in that or not. But regardless, most Caucasian babies will get a lot of attention and Korean women often want to touch them too.
