so scared...

Ok im really scared about this and i need someone whos been through this or knows anything to help me out. Can anyone tell me what might be wrong with me.

While i was pregnant i had a abnormal pap smear. My dcotor told me that it was probably pregnancy related and that it should go away after birth. 5 weeks after i had Aiden i had another pap smear and it too came back abnormal. I have to have a colposcopy the 21st and im so scared. Im on birth control that is supposed to stop my periods and instead ive bled for about 2weeks straight and its not lightening up, that and my stomach and vagina hurts really bad. I can barely put a tampon in and its been 7 weeks, that and it burns whenever i pee they've put me on 2 differnt antibiotics and neither have helped. Has anyone else been through this? Cause im really scared.

Do you think you might have an STD?

they said it could be HPV . dont that cause cancer though. i dont know i just know im scared as hell. i hope it isnt cancer, i dont knowwhat id do.

I had the same thing happen to me when I was 19. I had an abnormal pap and they did a colposcopy. They basically clean inside the vagina with vinegar and water then insert some dye stuff and look inside you with a microscope. The microscope isn't inserted, it stays out. After that, they get results and then you may have to have a biopsy. If you do, take 2 extra strength tylenol one hour BEFORE you go in to do them. They pinch but don't hurt. At least they didn't to me. Then depending on the results you may have to have a conization. That is where you are put to sleep and a cone shaped piece is removed from your cervix to remove the abnormal cells. I had that done in 91 and after my 3rd child in 1999 I had to have it done again. I too had a period that lasted three weeks and that's how it was caught the first time.

Put the tampons down and switch to pads immediately. The reason is with abnormal cells you are MORE prone to Toxic shock syndrome. None of what I went through was painful or horrible. Relax, think positive and STAY ON TOP OF IT! It can turn to cancer if you leave it untreated!

You dont think with me just having abnormal pap smears that its cancer yet do you. I mean they would have caught that on the papsmear right? Thank you for the advice by the way it really means alot.  

I wouldn't think it was cancer yet. Mine was bad but it was a Class 3 which meant severly abnormal. Class 5 is cancer. Ask which class your papsmear came back. Then you'll know how bad it is. Good luck and keep us posted. By the way, abnormal paps are VERY common. Pregnancy can make them better or worse. You'll be fine. I panicked the first time around. The second time I was MORE prepared! Keep up with your paps. It can come back!
