Abnormal Paps

My friend is also pregnant and she is only a week behind me. But the other day at her dr visit she got news back that her pap was abnormal. does this always mean that you have cervical cancer? or could it be nothing or what does it mean? shes worried. . . . and so am i. i want her baby to be ok and her also.   ( 

she could have a std?

It could be a lot of things, and doesn't necessarily mean that the tissue cells they took were abnormal... it could have been the discharge or something else. That could be anything from, like you said, cervical cancer, to just some kind of chemical imbalance, an infection that could easily be cleared up with antibiotics, etc.
She should have asked her doctor what the problem was, if they even know yet. Either way, I wish her and her baby the best!

No! I have had that twice and so has my mom. I had mild dysplasia, whcih could mean a number of things, but they just need to test you more often, sometimes get a biopsy to test cells deeper in your cervix.

yeah the doctor told her they dont know what it is so she has to go in for a colposcopy or something like that with a mircoscope. i cant remember when that was but sometime in february

it could mean she has HPV or an STD.

nope it could mean a simple uti..i had an abnormal pap when i first got preggo...i had a uti at the time..i redid it and it came back normal.

that means they have to look at her cells.
she most likely has HPV.

why? thats a little extreme considereing she is pregnant it can be an array of things, they should reschedule a pap smear for a later time then evaluate.

I had my pap while I was pregnant and it came back abnormal. The one I received after I had CJ came back normal. It doesn't always mean there's something wrong. Like someone else said, they'll more than likely keep an eye on it and test her more often to make sure.
