Water breaking or a moment of incontinence?

posted 1st Apr '11
Ok, I feel like a shmuck for not knowing, but I don't know if my water broke this morning, or if I just had an "accident"!

As I was lying in bed this morning awake, I experienced a sudden, unexpected gush of liquid. I did not feel like I had to use the toilet, and I've never had a problem with incontinence during pregnancy (besides the occasional time when I sneeze). It was colourless and pretty much odorless, maybe a little sweet-smelling or something (but lately my urine has been pretty potent, and this wasn't). On the flip side, I'm only 34 weeks, I'm not experiencing any contractions or other signs of labour, and since this happened 2 hours ago, I haven't had any more leaking, even after lying back down for 15 minutes and then getting back up. Sooo, is it possible for my water to have broken and I haven't had any more leaking since (or any other signs of labour), or is it more likely that baby had a well-aimed punch into my bladder which caused me to spring a leak? Or something comepletely different?

Thanks ladies!

I agree I would go in..I think urine you can hold back if you catch it in time lol,but when you waters break it just flows and I dont think you can stop it.I would go in and let them check you just in case.

I would get checked out too. It sounds like it might have been your water. Better safe than sorry. I didn't get any painful contractions for several hours after my water broke.

Sounds like I should be making a visit to L&D. I just hate to make a big deal out of nothing if they're just going to tell me that I peed the bed and send me home! I was induced with my first and had the doctor break my water, so I don't really have anything to compare this experience with.
