baby born with water in lungs

My friends baby was born today, she is in the NICU and they said she has water in her lungs... What causes this... and how serious is it? She is in recovery from her c-section so I haven't heard much more about it....

Coudl be because of the csection
cause coming out that way isnt the same as pushing
pushing (coming down the birth canal) helps get the water out of their lung

She probably swallowed meconium & amniotic fluid on her way out. It can be serious, but she'll be taken care of in the nicu.

Same thing happened to me. It CAN be serious, but most likely nothing will come of it. They gave Emmett a bit of oxygen, and he was fine!

she was breech and needed a csection.


her sister called and said "it doesnt look good" so i wasn't sure how serious it was...

my daughter was born with fluid in her lungs also...and she was in the nicu for observation to make sure it wasn pneumonia. It wasn't and cleared up in a couple days!

this happened to my daughter. she was born vaginally and was 9 pounds 9 ounces. the dr said she was breathing kinda hard and they sent her for xrays and found fluid on her lungs. the dr said it was because she didnt have all the fluid pushed out of her lungs when she was born and was in the nicu for a day and a half for it to clear up, but then as in for four and a half more days because of jaundice

same exact thing with my girl....plsu she had a small heart murmer that they wanted to keep an eye one...it closed by the time we left the nicu and she hasnt needed to see a cardio dr at all!
