Naming your child after their father

posted 17th Mar '11
As I mentioned in a previous post, my child's father is not really involved in my pregnancy and I was going to name my son after him. But now since he is being a prick about the whole situation im thinking he doesn't even deserve the honor of having a child carry he name. I'm pretty sure he won't be there wen my son is born so he won't have his last name either. has ne one named the son after their father and now regret it? Also wat are some great boy names that begin with J?( Unique but not outrageous) ...

I wouldn't name him after your BD. I'm not a fan of having Jr.s anyway. And I like the name Jerrell

I wouldn't name my son after his father even though he is involved. Luckily though, my DH agreed.

My oldest son has his father's name as his first middle name (he has 2 I couldn't decide on just one) and he was given that name when his dad and I were still together....I never really cared for it when we were together...but now I absolutely hate it.

That's cute. I didnt really care for jrs either but I was willing to give him that privilege if he had earned it.

I hate hate hate when boys are named after their dads.

My husband is a JR and he said he HATES it, he said it's so annoying having to add JR to everything so that he can distinguish himself from his father. Plus, his dad has a really bad record (criminal) and he does NOT want to be confused with him.

Wow that would really suck, my aunts bf gets arrested all the time for mistaken identity, luckily the charges don't stick, but it would cause me to get a legal name change if it were me ..lol

My husband is a great man and father, and I'd still never name a kid after him. My dad is a Jr and now has his dead beat father's name - which is painful for his mother. My brother just has our dad's first name (not a jr) and they still get ALL their stuff mixed up. Medical information, finances, even credit. So not worth it. Let your baby be his own person.

I wouldn't do it my husband is a Jr. as well and we both hate it he cant do anything without people thinking its his dad when we fill stuff out. Though I will say if I'm having a boy he will have his fathers name as a middle name only because it was my grandpa's name and will be named after him not my husband or his father.
