I have ICP.

Severe itchiness in the second or, more commonly, in the third trimester can be a sign of intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy, a liver problem that affects less than 1 percent of pregnant women in the United States.

When bile doesn't flow normally in the small ducts of your liver, bile salts accumulate in your skin and make you itch all over. The itching can be quite intense. The condition itself doesn't cause a rash, but you may end up with red, irritated skin with little cuts in areas where you're scratching a lot.

Call your doctor or midwife immediately if you think you have cholestasis because it may spell trouble for your baby. Your caregiver will do blood tests to check your liver as well as ultrasounds and fetal heart monitoring to check on your baby.

Depending on your health and your baby's condition, you may be induced before your due date. This problem goes away after you have your baby, although you may get it again with your next pregnancy.

I recently found out that I have to be induced at 37 weeks and I'm worried to death not to mention scared shitless.

I go for an ultrasound on monday just to see how much she weighs and find out if shes going to be cabable of breathing on her own.

I'm thinking of you!

Don't worry. I was induced at 37 weeks and 6 days, but my daughter was the size and developmently as far as a 35 week old because she stopped growing at 35 weeks. She was very healthy! She was born, but wasn't breathing at first because of the stress most likely, but was HEALTHY after 2 minutes or so!! Everything will be okay!

Thanks! Yeah, just remember there is a reason the doctors are inducing, to reduce the risks. That is why science is so helpful, because babies like mine would have not lived or would have had many problems if it weren't for induction!

Well it is different for everyone (depends on how dialated you are) but for me they:

1) Gave me cervadil, which is this medicine they insert up into your cervix to help dialate you. It can take 12 hours.
2) Gave me pitocin thru an IV after the cervadil was taken out.
3) When I was 3 cm they broke my water.
4) Fours hours later I had a baby

I had an epidural, and let me tell you.. it was AMAZING. I had to have my fiance help me move my legs so they could check me, rofl. Like I told you though, I ended up getting the c-section when inducing me didnt work.. but they kept the epi in during the c-section.

I was TERRIFIED of being induced, but it wasn't THAT horrible. Labor is going to suck no matter what anyway.

I didn't get an epi. I did get Staydol which basically only lasts an hour and they give it to you to help conserve energy. It allows you to relax between contractions and makes you feel woozy. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Be open minded about drugs though. I was so terrified of getting an epi or anything but I gave in and asked for the interthecal (walking epidural) but when they gave it to me I was already 9cm so it didn't work.

So I did it without an epi or anything like that and was fine. Staydol though I really think is good because you can rest so you save your energy for pushing.

37 weeks is considered term, so unless you have another condition, your baby should be fine! Good luck! I can't imagine dealing with all that itching...

haahha i'm terrified of needles though but i guess it all depends on how bad my contractions are i probably won't care after they start to kick in
