UPDATE 1/23: So Ryan got taken off of his ventilator and his C-Pap today!
He's breathing all on his own, just has a nasal canula to get him some good oxygen. They also took out one of his IVs today.. so he's had such a good day! I finally got to hold him and change his itty bitty diaper. All of y'alls prayers are working and keeping my little man strong, so thank you!!
He had his eyes open the whole time I was there! He loves his little pacifier too.. I thought he was gonna spit it out all the time but he kept it in all the time..
I finally got to hold him.. this picture shows how tiny he REALLY is.
UPDATED 1/24: So my friend Christina and I went to see Ryan today and they said that he was doing well but they had to stop his milk feedings today cause his tummy hasn't gotten used to normal food yet, but they were going to see how he tolerates it tomorrow. They called him the "big boy" because hes the biggest baby in his nursery, that's scary to think..! He's lost a couple ounces, but they said that's normal for the next probably two weeks. He's also they said the next baby to move into the intermediate nursery, which is an awesome thing.. that means that he doesnt need as much special care!
Ryans daddy came down to see him too and got to hold him for the first time since he was born! Robert was so excited, and it was amazing to see how much love he had for Ryan. I was more excited to see Robert holding him than me holding him.. it was the two men I love the most together!
Ryan and his daddy!
Ryan sleeps jusssst like his daddy.. with his mouth WIDE open!
UPDATE 1/25: Ryan got taken off of his nasal canula today!
He's getting stronger and stronger every day!!
This is what Ryan thought about his daddy being sick, I LOVE this picture!!
He's got big eyes like his mommy!! <3
He's all snuggled up nice and tight.
UPDATED 1/26: Ryan was moved out of the NICU today and into the intermediate care nursery!!
He's ONE step closer to coming home, yay!! They said in order for him to come home, he has to weigh at least 4lbs, tolerate his food by mouth and not by IV, and regulate his own body temperature. So hopefully he'll get home soon, but not TOO soon..! We want him to stay as long as he needs!
UPDATED 1/27: So since my fiance and I cant go see Ryan (We're both sick..!) I just called to check up on Ryan and he got moved into the next step nursery (I forget what they called it..) and he's gained one ounce!!
So he now weighs 2lb, 15oz.. he's almost at his birth weight (3lbs) YAY!!! I had these made, so I thought I'd post them here.
UPDATED 1/29: We went to see Ryan today and he's doing well, he's actually above his birth weight now!!
So he's at 3lbs and 1/10 of an ounce. Hey, even the littlest amounts count
They said once the babies have past their birth weights, they seem to gain weight alot quicker so I'm pretty excited!
UPDATED 1/30: Ryan's doing so well
His feedings have been increased and he's been taken off of all IV medicines except potassium. He's still the same weight as yesterday but at least he hasn't lost any. I kinda went picture crazy tonight, so here's just a few..
Shh mom!! I'm trying to rest!!
Ryan's weird hair color, lol.
His "pimp pose"
My pride and joy.
He LOVES his hands.
UPDATED 2/2: Ryan had all of his IVs taken out yesterday (the 1st) but last night he had to have one put back in because he was desat'ing
But he's gaining weight quickly..!! He weighed not even 3lb1oz on the 30th and today he weighed 3lb4oz!! He has to have his IV in for at least another week to get anti-biotics but hopefully then he can have the IV's taken out for good

Mommys precious smirking boy.

Hi mommy!!

YAAAWN!!

I absolutely adore this picture..

Dad!! No more pictures!!

Aww Ryan!! Why so sad?
UPDATED 2/5: Ryan's been doing SO well.. that is until today. I got a call from the hospital saying that Ryan had some sort of bowel infection and that they had to stop his feedings and put a tube into his stomach. They think he might have NEC (
http://www.kidshealth.org/parent/medical/digestive/nec.html) but they're still running tests. I went to see him but couldnt stop crying, I felt so helpless. He HAS gained alot of weight though.. he's now 3lb9oz, so he's catching up but I just feel like all of this NEC talk has put him at one huge step backwards. Pray for him please girls?
UPDATED 2/6: Two steps forward, one step back. Today we went down to see Ryan and we were informed that they thought he needed a blood transfusion. His O2 sats kept dropping and coming back up and he was extremely pale so they thought it would be best. They're going to do the transfusion today and possibly put in a PIC line in the next day or two if they feel he still needs it, but they had us sign the form anyways just in case. They're also going to do a spinal tap on him to check for menengitis. I'm really worried about him, but I know the hospital is doing everything in his best interest.

This is why he needed the blood transfusion.. see how pale he looks?
UPDATED 2/7: I talked to Ryan's nurse today and they said that Ryan has tolerated the blood transfusion perfectly and that his coloring is back to normal, whew. Also yesterday he had lost 1oz but today he had gained it right back so he's officially 3lb8oz. They still haven't decided 100% if they want to do the PIC line just yet so it's all determined on how he looks inthe next day or two. They said he's calm and sleeping well and that his oxygen levels are doing much better since the transfusion so it's done him well
UPDATED 2/8: Ryan has done SO much better today. He's stopped having blood in his stools, and they've stopped doing X-Rays on him, so they no longer believe that he has NEC, whew! They also did the spinal tap on him and he does NOT have menengitis, so they've come to the conclusion that he just had a simple infection that has cleared itself from his body with the antibiotics. THANK GOD! They're still planning on putting in the PIC line but want to wait until they're 100% sure that all of the infection he had is completely out of his body. He looked SO much better color-wise than he did just the day before yesterday and I'm so thankful that the blood transfusion has helped him so much.
See the HUGE difference in his coloring?
UPDATE 2/14: I haven't updated alot thanks to working so much this week but Ryan's doing just fine
He's now 4lbs and eating out of a bottle, so hopefully he'll be home soon.. the hospital requires the babies to be at least 4lbs before they can come home, so all he needs to do now is eat from a bottle and be able to tolerate being in an open bed (whenever they put him in one..)
Hi mommy!! (the date is obviously wrong..)
Someone's a night owl! This was taken at MIDNIGHT!
Ryan and his daddy.
Hey, whats goin on over there?
Kissy!!
He knows he's cute..!
UPDATE 2/16: Ryan got his PIC line put in and he had to have another blood transfusion yesterday but they said they almost always give preemies transfusions around 1 month old since they're always taking blood from them, it takes preemies alot longer to reproduce all of the blood they take out. They said this will most likely be the last transfusion he'll need
I'm thinking about having him transfered to a hospital a little closer to me, right now he's 45 minutes away in downtown Atlanta but I'm still not quite sure if it'd be in his best interest or not so I'm going to speak with his nurses..
UPDATE 2/24: Sorry it's been so long.. I've been super busy, working every day and everything.. it's been hectic. Ryan's doing so well right now, he's 4lbs11oz and getting chubbier by the day!
They're waiting on him to eat out of a bottle and are probably going to get an occupational therapist in to work with him on it and see if it wont "click" for him. They're planning on stopping his lipids sometime this week and then once they do that they're going to try to take him out of the incubator, finally!! Then once he tolerates the room air okay, all he needs to do is eat more out of a bottle!! So whenever he gets that down he can come home!!
This is my favorite picture of the moment.. lol
He sits there and sucks on it but wont drink anything from it..
Hi mommy!!
Daddy and his Mini-Me.
This one was from today.. I think he was done with pictures.
I think this is the cutest picture..
UPDATE 2/29: Ryan is coming home on SUNDAY the 2nd!!!
We're going to room in with him tomorrow night and bringing him home when we come home on Sunday. So tomorrow will be our final trip to the NICU!
