constipated baby

my poor little man has a belly ache! he's pretty cranky because he needs to just poop. He's pooped once in the last day. Is there anything safe for babies to help them poop??? ASAP please help thanks

karo syrup in water... mix about a table spoon for every 4 ounces.... it worked with my brother and sister.... you might want to do a teaspoon if he is under 5 months though

I used Karo in my daughters bottle daily, just a bit though, you dont want him to get diarrhea! She never had tht prob. hOpe it works 

Gently put the thermometer in his bottom and take it out. Problem solved.  

I was told something about flat room temp Dr Pepper.

I was wondering how old your baby is... When mine was an infant we never had constipation. I think it was the breastmilk. I believe formula is iron-fortified and that is what causes it. My pediatrician has an open question time each day from 8-8:30. Does yours have this? And if so, I would definitely give them a ring. They are the experts...

it all depends on how old he is...i think the book says if he's older than 5 months you can give him a lil prune juice diluted with water...but if he's younger than that...you have to hold his legs up to his chest for 10 seconds then gentley stretch them out straight and repeat that until he seems to pass gas or push out a BM. but if all else fails call your pediatrician and ask him/her. good luck..hope your lil one feels better soon.

yea this works too...i'd try this first...it did wonders when Bri was constipated...lol

Thanks everyone. I'm going to be calling the dr tomorrow just to see what she says but I'll try the thermometer trick for now and if she says it's ok with the karo syrup I'll try that. He was breastfed but there were complications with my milk coming in so he's on formula w/iron.

Diluted apple juice or mylecon drops. and try layin him on his back and bicycling his legs.sing a little song while you do it. helps my little girl. good luck!

My daughter has had bad constipation probles since 2 weeks old. What the pediatritian recommended and worked was, dark karo syrup (half a tsp) in every bottle or one ounce of prune juice, one ounce of water. I have a lot I can share with you, PM me if you need more ideas or have questions. Three months later I'm still dealing with this, so trust me I'm an expert!

i have the same problem with mine it started last tuesday.. she pooped fine monday night then didnt poop tuesday or wednesday and pooped thursday night after sugar water and belly massages..
then she only pooped a teeny teeny bit and it was sticky and stuff that was friday and she hasnt pooped since then.. ive been supplementing with formula and up til last week she was doing just fine..so if u find something that works.. let me konw!!!

my daughter was having the same problem around this time... I breastfeed for 4 weeks but around week 2 or 3... she didn't poop for 5 days... so I research it...
then called the pedi... who confirmed it..

around the 1-3 week period a baby can go through a phase called... stool rentention where they are pretty much constipated for upto 5 days... most mom's don't notice it becasue there baby's lasts less than a day... Audri's last almost 5... if it goes on longer than their could be a bigger problem

hey thats good to know!!! its great to have informative mommas on here... this is my second baby but all babies are different my son was such an easy baby!!!hardly any issues this one.. shes just like momma!!!!!!always havin some little issue!!!!!
