Quoting Momma of Kirsten:“ I was reading a bunch of different post where feb and March mom's where getting non stress test once ... [snip!] ... a week until they deliver! I was wondering why ppl where getting them my dr has never said anything about getting even one.”

My doc didn't do them either....I had one last week, only because I had a high Blood pressure check and he wanted to be sure all was okay.

Every doc is different. I know mine must be! LOL

I get them twice a week because my baby is on the smallish side, so he could have IUGR (intrauterine growth restriction) which would mean he's not getting enough nutrition. I also get twice-weekly ultrasounds to check his amniotic fluid levels...

Non-stress tests check to make sure the baby's heart rate is increasing with movement. They usually last 20-30 minutes as long as s/he's moving okay. They hook a monitor up to check your contractions and one to keep track sf his/her heart rate, and you have to hit a little button every time s/he moves. They're no big deal but they're not standard procedure, you will only get them if there is a snag or potential problem, just to check to make sure the baby's not in distress.
