I'm being laid off...
posted 17th Jan '08
I have no idea on what I am going to do... I am honestly in complete shock and I am a little scared of how me and my fiance are going to pay our bills, without me working.
Back story.. I work as an Authorized Nextel dealer and the owner of the store is deciding to close it down beacuse he isn't making much profit. I'm the only one who works at this store I open/close and pretty much run it. I knew it would eventually close but I was not thinking about so soon.
I guess my question is what do I do or what can I do? The only reason I'm stressing is because when me and my Fiance just lived in our Apartment we could live just off of his pay. Then we went and bought our house, and I think we could still live off of just his pay but it will be tight tight tight. And now with a baby coming holy cow!
I mean do you think I would be able to find a job now being almost 6 months pregnant?
Sorry, I'm sad and lost.

Unemployment
quoteposted 17th Jan '08
Can you file for unemloyment?? Since you were laid off. I don't know about Alabama, but in California.....being laid off entitles you to unemployment. It will at least help until after the baby is born when you can start looking again. Good Luck

I was thinking about unemployment but I was wondering on how long you have to be working some where to get it. Sadly it would be just one month shy of a year for me.
Thanks for the advice I figure if anything I'll start looking now. And not get depressed about it because it won't help just makes things worse.

Here you have to have continuous employment for 6 months then you can get unemployment.

I think that is how it is here.. I was reading online it said two quarters of the year... so that is good news, since I've worked longer then that.

With unemployment they make you apply for jobs, I would try a temp service, I did it with my first pregnancy, I was 7 months, and it worked out great! And I was getting paid more than my previous job!!

How do temp services work?

Kinda like a placement service, like a business goes to them, and says I need 3 people to cook, or I need 2 people who know phones, preferable nextel. And the temp service screens the apps, and if your right for the job, they put you in the place for it. If you work out, the company hires you, or tells the temp company they need someone else, and the temp company finds you another job.

Do you pay for them to place you in a job or is there an up front fee?

start with the unemployment. I'm on it, it's pretty rad... in Michigan they just make you post your resume online and call an automated number every two weeks to certify you are trying to get a job. Luckily for me I'm preg so no one wants to hire me, which is fine because I didnt' wanna work anyway. Heh... $500 every 2 weeks for doing nothing is good enough for me.

it's free, no fees at all, or atleast with the one I delt with
