My baby has just been diagnosed with "bladder outlet obstruction", which means there is something blocking the exit of urine from his bladder causing the urine to flow back in to his kidneys.
By the time they found this it has managed to destroy almost totally the tissue of his right kidney, and is now starting to damage his left one…
Has anyone ever heard of this, or of something similar, I could really use the help and info!!!

My cousin's baby was born with the ligament on the bottom of his penis still attached to the scrotum (it wasn't separate) it went all the way attached to the tip and they said something about his urine not coming out like that. He had to have surgery when he was just a few weeks old, and they put a catheter (spelling?) in him and she had to use two diapers and cut a hole in one (for the catheter to go out) so that he wouldn't get an infection, since he just had surgery to separate the two. They literally had to reconstruct his little penis. They couldn't even circumsize him until he was about 6 months old.

As far as kidney damage I don't think he had any since they caught it so early. What have the Dr.s said they can do for him?

I searched it through Google to find out more information, especially being we have a son on the way. What did your doctor say? And the treatment? I'm so sorry for your little angel. I'm praying for him for a full recovery.

Through ultrasound, my nephew had a stomach obstruction at around 20 weeks. They kept a close eye on it because sometimes it goes away by itself, but they did inform my sister that if it didn't (it was a cyst of some sort) it was a simple surgery to clear it. Apparently they are quite common and is the reason some babies have bad reflux or do not urinate.
Wishing you and your bub the very best. Hopefully it is easily corrected.

my little cousin had this. They call it kidney reflux disease. He had to have so far 2 opperations - 1 to straighten the tube (the wee one) and another to remove the kidney that was totallysdestroyed.

He will be on daily medication the rest of his life and he has to be monitored closely - they think its possible one day he will need a kidney transplant. but apart from that he will live and happy healthy and normal life.

good luck and i hope that your lil boy is ok!

I do have Minimal Change Nephrodic Syndrome (kidney disease) and the only thing that put me into remission is Prednasone - but I'm not sure if babies can take it. And they used a catheter in me to excrete the fluids because I could not urinate for the life of me and it wasn't pleasant. But see what your options are then go from there.

I've got two appointments with two different specialists tomorrow so we'll see what they suggest.
there is some kind of procedure that can be done before birth in order to empty the bladder and then minimize the risk of the second kidney being damaged, but it's high risk for infections and such, so that also has to come into account.
In any case they probably won't let me get to full term, and will have to deliver him early…
Thanks for the support!!!
