Cramping
posted 12th Jan '08
I am about 5 weeks pregnant and I have some light cramping kind of like I'm about to start my period. I heard this is normal, but can also be bad. Did anyone else have these symptoms? I read online that you don't really need to worry unless you lose your symptoms or start bleeding. I am definitely nauseous and haven't had any bleeding. I just wanted to check and see what anyone had to say. Also, my husband and I can't decide how long to wait to tell our parents. We want to tell them, but I guess I am nervous about having a miscarriage or something. This is our first child so we don't really know what to expect. Any advice would be appreciated.

I am 8wks and had those off and on for about 2 wks. They started right about 5 wks. I also had a little bleeding, so I went to the Dr and they did an US... everything was fine. If you are still worried nothing wrong with calling your DR. About telling... We told our parents when we found out, you should do what is best for you though =) Good luck and congrats!

I am 8 weeks and had that cramping isnce before I knew I was pregnant. I have had my first ultrsound and all is well and doc says it happens a lot in first pregnancies. It is just everything stretching and making room for baby to grow. We told our fams a little past 5 weeks after we confirmed pregnancy with Dr. and even waiting that long was hard. I look at is as if I were to miscarry I would want a support system to lean on so I told close friends and family but waiting on everyone else until I am out of 1st trimester.

I think you made the very best decision to tell your parents----why not start getting baby gifts now?

I also had cramping in weeks 5-6 and they felt like I was getting my period. I never had any cramping or spotting in my first two pregnancies but I've lost 2 in the last 3 years (w/o any signs of losing them) so I was extremely worried. I did have some spotting and ended up seeing a doctor, but I was told as long as the blood is brownish that means it is old blood and shouldn't pose a problem. If it is pink or red it is considered new blood and you need to be seen asap! So if you start spotting keep a close eye on it and definately call your doctor ifit ispink or red. Other than that, try not to stress you'll probably been fine
As far as telling your family and close friends, I would tell who you consider to be important (parents, close family, best friend). Like Erica Lee said if something were to happen you'd definately want a support system you can rely on and trust. However I'd wait to tell everybody else....boss, co worker, neighbors etc...you'd hate to have to explain to random people what happened if God forbid you did lose the baby Good luck momma!

I have very light cramping in the beginning and I'm still ok, I even had a couple times where I bled, though not very much.

Thanks guys! This website is amazing! It is hard not to have anyone to talk to about it since we haven't told our family yet. We decided we will wait for when we can get them all together but not try to force it. I have my first ultrasound in 2 1/2 weeks so if we haven't told been able to get them together by then we will probably find a way to as long as the Dr. said everything was ok. Thanks again!

I have a little bit of cramping right now too, no bleeding though. I've had a miscarriage before, so I've sort of been freaking out a bit, I'm trying not to stress too much though, I think stressing might make it worse.

This is the exact topic I was looking for. I found out I was pregnant last week and have had cramps like I was going to start my period. Does anyone know how long I should anticipate this to continue? I have not had any bleeding, however I am a worry wart and tend to read to much of the "scary stuff" in the books. My sister has 2 kids but went through 4 miscarriges in between them. She of course told me to call my doctor.

I think it can happen the whole pregnancy but more so in first trimester and with first pregnancy. I know mine has lessened in the past week or so and I am only 8 weeks.I had them more at nightfrom about 4-7 weeks but we'll see if it starts again. Right now what i have are the shooting pains through the vagina...sounds scary but I guess they are normal too...all part of the stretchingand preparation. I have had them here and there for about two weeks. Anyone else?
