swithing to whole milk.. nightmare!!

posted 11th Jan '08
let me start off by saying, im pretty sure my daughter isnt allergic to milk. She eats cheese just fine! now that i think of it, thats all she eats just fine that contains milk.. ice-cream & yogart make her throw up, everytime she eats them.
anyways. the reason im writing this is since we've switched my daughter to whole milk, she has been throwing up! we stopped the milk and gave her pedialyte. she stopped throwing up.. so we started the milk again! and here we go again, throwing up! its as if the milk is curdled! this has been going on since monday! she has no appetite and i cant really blame her. The smell of her vomit is enough to make me want to throw-up myself! she hasnt been running a temp at all. so im assuming it has to be the milk. its been messing with her stools too. one minute they are watery, the next diaper she's constipated and they are super solid. and they've been odd colors! her other symptoms that have started since the milk switch are a runny nose (but we live in colorado so im assuming that could have something to do with it, cold weather and all) and a slight cough. has anyone else expirenced any problems when they switched their little ones to whole milk? i thought i'd come ask you ladies since you all have been in my shoes and went through the milk change already! i've called the doctor and they keep saying "lets see how she does" well i called them back today to let them no nothing has improved, they tell me "we'll have a nurse call you when one is available" its been 2 hours now, and im a little impatient due to the fact this has been going on for almost a week now!! anyone have an expirence like this?? any suggestions??! anything??! please! i hate seeing my little girl so sick!

My son has constipation problems, the only milk he can drink without getting constipated is 2% milk. I never had a problem with him throwing up..thankfully... What was she on before the switch? You might have to go back to that. Or try soy milk or something. She might just be lactose intolerant.

She could still have a lactose intolerance! Before I got pregnant I was VERY lactose intolerant....except for with CHEESE....i could eat it on a burger, or even cubed cheese and small portions! And one of my favorite things to eat is Queso! But I could not drink milk, or eat Yogurt or ice cream to save my life! Sounds like she is the SAME way!

Yeah sounds like you might have a baby with an allergy. My second childisnt allergic to it but the carbohydrates in it make her get tummy aches alot. We stop milk for a while and she is fine, start it back up and with in 2 weeks she is having problems again. So I jus tlimit the milk she gets. She does fine with all other dairy products but not a cup of milk. I would just stop giving her the milk all together might even try some soy milk. If she can eat cheese fine she is atleast getting some calcium so that is good

my son is one years old and i switched him to milk. not whole milk. use 2%. its better for them. and i did it slowly. i would at first but half milk and half formula ad ten as time went on it was less and less formula. now he is just fine. and its easy to take them off teh bottle as well. my son was off the bottle and on to sippy cups by the time he was 10 months. i gave him the cup and said no more bottles and that was it. its not hard

Sounds like lactose intolerance. Try lactose free milk. My daughter is slightly lactose intolerant. If she drinks milk she gets really bad gas. She can eat cheese, ice cream and yogurt just fine, but cant drink milk.

im not sure where you heard that 2 %is better . but its not true ...

Why should my toddler drink whole milk?

Toddlers (up to 2 years old) grow very fast and their brains are continuing to develop. Extra fat and calories are need to support this growth.
Whole milk is an easy way to be assured that your toddler is getting enough to grow well.

Thats what my daughter drinks. My husband will drink it too on the rare occasions that he wants some milk. Hes lactose intolerant as well as my daughter. I think it tastes funny, but my husband says it tastes like regular milk. I guess when you dont drink regular milk, you cant tell the difference.
