Job

posted 10th Jan '08
Alright...my job...

I hate it. I work 6pm-6am and my schedules wierd. At times I end up putting 60 hours in in 5 days. I work in a foundry and I'm run down, tired, cranky, besides being pregnant. I breathe in this crap all day which doesn't help matters either. My job wasn't SO bad before I was pregnant, but it's killing me now. I know it's not totally responsible to quit my job before finding another, but I'm to the point where I'm missing work cuz I'm sick all the time, I can't hardly function, and I'm ready to just walk out. I dont know what to do...any suggestions??????

Are you applying for new jobs? I wouldn't quit, if you have to work, because the way the economy is, it takes forever to find a new one.

have you talked to your doctor about it? are there any other positions you could take up in the company? my doctor just took me off full duty, i was working 6 to 6 too and he said it was too much and no wonder i was exhausted all the time, he cut myshifts back to 8 hours and it's been so much better for me these past few days. i'm a cook in the military, and now instead of cooking a full day i just help out. or like katesmama said look for a new job, i know that's hard working 6 to 6...

My doctors not very sensitive about that kind of stuff...they're hiring in the factory part, but because I'm salary I can't move to an hourly position so I'm pretty much stuck!

oh damn... i didn't think my doc would change anything for me either. i went in for round ligament pain on tuesday morning, just cuz it's my first pregnancy to get this far and i just wanted to verify that's what it was... and he just asked me about my work schedule and then wrote me a note saying i can't work more than 8 hours...

sucks you can't switch over. yeah i would start looking for something else whenever you get the chance... i know that it must be hard on you

Your doctor may be more concerned about it once you are further along. My doc didn't seem concerned at all until about 32 weeks. Then he wanted to cut my hours and get me off my feet, but I couldn't afford it and it wasn't mandatory so I worked 40 hours until the day before my induction and I would have been way over if they hadn't induced me. I think the best thing to do is talk to your work and see what exceptions they can make for you.
