We are really wary of pretty much ANYONE. There are work friends who are in love with Belle and always want to babysit her, and that eagerness makes me nervous so we always make excuses as to why we dont need sitters.
As Belle gets older we will tell her that if anyone makes her uncomfortable, to tell us right away. And, I wont be as lax as my parents were, any plans or anything will be very specific. We will tell her WHO is picking her up, or whatnot, and to NOT go with anyone else.

We aren't going to tell the password to anyone, even our parents, unless there is a legit emergency and we CAN'T pick up our kids.

And yes, I will be teaching my child "stranger danger", but also that she is not to go with ANYONE, not even her grandpa or her aunts or her father, unless they give her our password. And I'll be teaching her it is ok to come to me and tell me if anyone hurts her, even if it's someone we love.

Yeah.

But honestly I wish I could take back seeing it.

It's very true.. but I've taught my kids from the beginning that they're more likely to be hurt by people they know then from strangers. Both mine and my mothers life was full of abuse by family members, hell I'm still learning about what she went through. I decided (and my mum agreed) to teach my kids the truth from the get go. It's usually the people you'd least suspect.

And I agree with that. Most abductions are from people the children know. They shouldn't be scared by everyone but to know what to do when someone is trying to do something they know shouldn't be done to them. Like they should always ask their parents if they can go in their family friends car, etc.

I agree. I periodically ask Ds if he has any "secrets" with anyone & tell him that it is ALWAYS okay to tell momma ALL your secrets - even if someone tells him not to. So far I found out that daddy has a lot of secrets - like he broke a bowl that was my grammas, he ruined a shirt of mine by washing it (shrunk) and threw it away AND daddy ate McDonalds when he pretended to like my new recipe...LOL I am thankful this is the sum of any secrecy he has been sworn to. I don't tell daddy he told me either - or else I may not keep getting "the scoop". I tell him that sometimes adults might ask him to keep a secret but he never has to keep them from me no matter what they say. I am the ULTIMATE secret keeper I tell him...so he rushes to me whenever he has one now - even what my Xmas gifts were. That's okay though!

I was molested as a kid - so I think I have a pretty keen sense of danger for him & I also know how you get manipulated, so I try to arm him against the tactics.

I just saw this episode tonight and they simultaneously mentioned two things that made kids more misinformed that we realized. One is, of course, Stranger Danger, but the other is Officer Friendly. While I'm certain most police officers are fine human beings, not all of them are and Officer Friendly was basically telling kids that all cops are great guys who can be trusted no matter what. Sadly, that's not always the case even though it should be.
