How to Baby Wear!!
Moby/baby wrap: (I suggest always folding the fabric in half)
Cradle hold (can nurse in this hold), hip hold (best to use while doing laundry), and lotus hold (best for babie that like to look out at the world. This video also shows the hug hold, but the kangaroo hold is MUCH better!:
(I just scoot her down from the kangaroo hold when she gets hungry and is already in the wrap, plus it helps her reflux to nurse upright)
Ring sling
How to nurse in a ring sling in public or where ever:
***MOBY TIPS: If you find it is difficult to put on, or is always too tight/too loose, you can try the kangaroo hold. This sounds complicated but it's really not. PLEASE see the safety tips below. Always fold the fabric in half width wise. Watch the video "folded" method below. However, once you get the pieces over your shoulder, you follow the directions for the kangroo hold (link to directions above) and when you make the X on your back use two hands to put each side up, instead of trying to cross them over your shoulders at the same time just like the video says. I always put the logo tag part right underneath my boobs, and then make the pouch loose enough to get the baby in and readjust once you have your baby in the pouch by pulling UP and out on each shoulder piece wrapping it across the baby, under the opposite foot and around the back one at a time kinda like how this german chick does in the video below (except you do the kangaroo wrap). I cheat a bit when I put it on. I don't pull the fabric over my LO's shoulders or spread it across her butt until after I have her in it. This saves a lot of time, makes it much easier to wrap, but you have to be careful you don't twist the fabric or pull TOO tight that you hurt your LO. Proper support until you adjust the fabric after is a must if you take a short cut like that too. Then once I have that done, I pull the big X on your back that goes across your shoulders down and make sure it doesn't have any hidden uncomfortable folds, and then I pull the krissed/crossed fabric on your lower back up for better support. And later if you notice it's not fitting perfectly as it should for max. comfort, you can actually adjust the tightness/looseness of that one and reach your hands underneath the whole thing to readjust easier because you have the center piece on the inside KWIM? No need to take it off to readjust like you would have to with other holds. To nurse in it, just whenever you put your baby in, scoot you LO down just a bit or wrap it not so tight so you can adjust easier.
Neither of these video do the kangaroo hold, but will show you some tricks for getting the wrap on more comfortably:
My personal favorite carriers are slings and wraps: I love the moby wrap, baby ktan, sleepy wrap and ring sling. I am not a fan of the Ergo personally. It didn't give me as much back support as wraps like the moby and ktan. It's missing that X on the back, and almost feels like it's going to fall off and makes me top heavy. Not worth all the hype IMO. I REALLY like the baby ktan, as it is the same thing as the moby, except they divided the wrap into two pieces, and made it so it's automatically crossed in the back. It's much more convienient, but not as easily adjustable I think. I REALLY want one because with the moby, if you put it on in public, the fabric will drape on the ground, but with the ktan, it doesn't. THe sleepy wrap is essentially just the moby with a stretchier, thicker fabric which has a plus and down side to it. Easier to adjust, but doesn't stay put like the moby. Technically you can do these holds with any long piece of fabric and call it a "moby".or "sleepy wrap". I'm sure you could even make a ktan VERY easily! The kanagroo hold is by far the best, and easiest to put on. It takes me all of 1 min. 30 seconds to get it on and get my baby situated, and NO back pain at all! It took a bit of practice to find which hold I like and how to get it on. I wish I would have had someone to give me tips like this thread can give you! I like to do yoga in it too. I just got through working out and making dinner... while my baby is happy It also is great because she will want to nurse over and over to the point she gives herself and upset tummy, but the moby soothes her and gives me the ability to take care of other things... Every single mom must have one! I will never try to push a stroller and a shopping cart ever again! You can breast feed in it hands free with baby secure and everything, however the ring sling offers a little more privacy and is actually the fastest thing to put baby in. I keep it in my diaper bag.
PLEASE BABY WEAR SAFELY! Make sure you can always see your babies face, there is proper head and neck support and that the chin does not touch the chest. There are tips on the moby website for wrapping safely I suggest you look at if you have a wrap, and always follow the safety rules on your specific baby holder. PRACTICE FIRST WITH A DOLL BEFORE YOU TRY IT WITH YOUR BABY!

I am a very large PSM and I bought a Moby and didn't care for it. The Snugli, exact same as the one posted was the only one that fit me with out letting my spare tire hang out with enphasism! lol
Great post tho. When I first got the moby I watched numerous U-Tube videos on different holds.

Gotta love what you can do in baby carriers. My mom loved the snugli too, but I don't like it or the bjorn on my back....ouch!
This is a good thread mama!
I really want a Moby, my LO hates the baby carrier we have because of the way it makes her legs separate.
I'd love to be able to hands free nurse, I need to get stuff done while she's feeding (like go on BG ;) ).
For anybody interested, I am starting out a boutique making high quality sling rings with over 50 different fabric choices.
I am working on a website right now but in the beginning I'll be offering GREAT deals to mamas so I can get the word out. So if you are interested in getting a VERY well priced sling, then be looking out.
OP, would selling handmade slings through a small online business be allowed as well or is it just for people who are looking to sell/trade their old baby wear?
I want to start baby wearing but im scared it may be to late.
Cody is 6 months old is that way to late to start? I tried it before and I know he likes being close to me. But now he likes getting down all the time to play.
