When to start....

real food? I add cereal to his bottles cause he has acid reflux and his pedi said to but what are the signs that he is ready to start eating real food like stage one foods and cereal? His pedi said we would talk about that at our next appointment but he is starting to act like the bottle isn't enough and is always watching us eat and looks curious. I dont know what to do should I call his pedi or what?

6 months is usually recommended, although some doctors say 4, because their digestive systems need to mature and they need to be able to push food back and swallow it. I read that the baby should be able to sit up pretty well and should have doubled their birth weight as well. I just started my daughter on cereal last night and she will be 6 months next week. She has been reaching for my food for and trying to eat it for about a month now, and she knows how to drink from a cup, so I decided she was ready.

My pedi put my son on rice cereal (from a bowl w/ a spoon) when he was 3 months and stage 1 foods at 4 months but I know that is a lot sooner than most pedis do.

my pedi said four months for stage 1 foods. my son also has rice in all his bottles for really bad acid reflux.

My doctor said not to give her any solids until 4 months for cereal, and six months for other food.

Good way to go. My pedi. let me know when it was OK to start cereal and I trust his judgement so Emily was started at 4 months. Veggies at 5 months and just started fruits at 6 months.
