HELP!

posted 3rd Jan '08
Im 37 weeks today and I AM READY. I am trying so hard to self induce myself and of course nothing is working. Sex, walking, nipple stim, spicey food. Everything except caster oil. I feel like im losing my mind. Im cant even put my shoes on, get up from the couch, My first son passed away at 3 weeks old last Dec. so I got pregnant right away after that. Needless to say Ive been preggo for 2 YEARS NOW!
What can I do to get this started. Its my second pregnancy but i was induced with my first son at 39 weeks. Do things normally progress quicker with your second. Trust me....I ALREADY KNOW the baby will come when his is ready, I know I should'nt rushit-- BUT I AM. what should I do?

Eh.. if nothing has worked maybe it's a sign you should suck it up and wait?

By the way, if you're only full term (some argue it's actually 38 weeks) today.. does that mean you tried all those self induction methods today or were you trying before you hit 'term'?

If you get any good answers, let me know! I am miserable right now & nothing is working for me either. I have a doc appointment tomorrow.....maybe he'll tell me I'm VERY dilated and it could be any day now. haha

40 weeks tomorrow. Nothing will work unless your body and baby are ready. Trust me. I've had to learn this the hard way.

Induction massage works.
My husband just did another one for a lady yesterday morning, she texted him in the middle of the night that she was on her way to the hospital.
You can bet your bottom dollar that when week 37 creeps around and I am a-ok to go, I'm gonna have him inducing me.

You have to find a massage therapist who has studied and learned induction massage, its a specialty massage. I know my husband charges $115 for 90 minutes. Its pricey, but it feels good, you can feel it working (IE your uterus will contract as the massage goes on, and the baby will shift positions) and within 48 hours you go into labor or they therapist typically will do another one for free.

BTW..you're doctor is an idiot. 0__0

I know someone who's labour was stopped ONE DAY prior to 37 weeks... One more day andthey wouldn't have stopped labour. The baby's immune and respiritory system need those last couple of weeks to develope.

My friend was INDUCED at 35 weeks for medical reasons, and even iwth the steroids they kept him in NICU for a week. (Maybe it was two?) because of body weight. Glad you're 37 already because if you had gone early...yeah, you should do some reasearch.

And castor oil is a no no. Look it up on google.

Well doctors could be wrong about the weight estimation, which is why I'm waiting the full 38 before trying any self induction methods.

.. the rate of preemies over the age of 28 weeks surving is 90%.. why not have all our babies at 30 weeks then

YOU ARE SO RIGHT! Ten people tell me it works like a charm.....Then one person will say "NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO IT WONT WORK, YOU HAVE TO WAIT"
Lets figure this out. Im over this, and so is this baby. what is your babe weighing in at?
I think im seriously going to do the oil....but just a teaspoon at a time. I just dont want to have diarreah if it works ya know?

The point of taking castor oil is to end up with diarrhea -_- It's supposed to make your muscles spasm and thus cause contractions.

Here.

How does castor oil work?
Castor oil is a laxative. It is believed that castor oil works to stimulate the bowels. It can lead to cramps and tightening of the muscles in the intestines. These cramps may spread to the uterus, tightening the uterine muscles and stimulating contractions. These contractions may or may not lead to the onset of active labor.

I KNOW ! GOOD THEORY!
My first son I had to be induced b/c he needed a heart transplant. ANYWHO...I was induced at 38 weeks. He was full term and only 6 lbs---
That's why I think i should move forward with having this baby this week. Hes 8lbs and im dialated to 3.
What do ya think?

Yep. it's supposed to IRRITATE the bowels (I.E. Diarrhea. the same general idea as spicy foods) which are so close to a woman's uterus that it's supposed to cause contractions.

I tried to self induce, but all I got was really strong Braxton Hicks contractions. I went to the health food store and got a "labor tincture" and it didn't work. I went in at 41 weeks and I was having stong Braxton Hicks contractions and they couldn't give me Potossin, so the Dr. ended up breaking my water.

Next time, I'm just going to have the Dr. induce me and not do anything myself.

I'm sorry to hear about your son last December, was it expected that he wouldn't make it?
