Acid Reflux

posted 1st Jan '08
My soon to be 3 month old has acid reflux. She is currently on Zantac twice daily and evenings are still difficult. She claws, arches and hits before she'll latch on sometimes, but not always. I can tell she's frustrated. Any suggestions or similiar experiences?

My son is only 3 weeks old and we have been told he has acid reflux and he takes zantac but he doesnt seem to spit up or vomit as much as he did at first, so I dont know if this will help or perhaps you already tried it, but when my son seems to get really fussy I lay in across my lap on his belly and it seems to calm him down until he is ready to eat again. But I also am bottlefeeding and he is taking zantac 3 times a day.

She does seem to be improving and I often lay her across my lap to burp, but I haven't tried it when she's fussy in this instance. Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a shot!

Oh yea when I lay him on my lap on his tummy, I usually rub his back too. I hope it helps.

my baby has been having issues with acid reflux when she turned two months old....and i took her off the enfamil with iron and i was told to try the enfamil gentlease....and the dr diagnosed her as having minor acid reflux...so it wasnt too bad ...but it could have gotten worse...

so the gentlease is working just fine...no more spitting up bottle to bottle for weeks at a time...

but im su re that doesnt help you mommies that are breastfeeding...

My daughter has reflux also and is taking Ranitidine (zantac) twice a day. She did however, continue to spit-up even with the medicine. Anyway, does your daughter spit up a lot? I found out about a month ago that my daughter has a milk protein allergy and any dairy I ate made her stomach upset and caused her to spit up a lot! I switched her onto a soy formula and havent had any problems since....and now have a much happier baby!

Also, maybe the reason that your daughter is still doing that at night is because the medicine isnt strong enough for her. They do have other prescriptions they can give you, such as Prevacid. Thats the only one I know of right now, since it is what my doctor suggested we try if the Ranitidine didn't work. How long have you had her on the Zantac? It does take a little while to work, I think it took us a good 3 weeks before I saw her pain completely stop.I got impatient after 2 weeks and wanted to put her on stronger meds but the doctor suggested I wait for a full month before switching her and I'm glad I waited, a week later she was completely fine! Hope I have helped some!

Quoting ryleighs_momma:“ My daughter has reflux also and is taking Ranitidine (zantac) twice a day. She did however, continue ... [snip!] ... for a full month before switching her and I'm glad I waited, a week later she was completely fine! Hope I have helped some!”

Thanks for the info. it's been 2 weeks and the only reason I was getting a bit discouraged is because that's how long her Dr. said it would take, but I'll take your comment into consideration! Thanks everyone!!!
