The pump on http://www.craigslist.com
and the parts at http://www.goores.com
(at the store)

They have all the parts everywhere, but I had a hard time finding the tubing. They do sell everything at http://www.medela.com

Hi I have 2 questions 1- I want to sling my lo. the problem is i'm a big girl with a bad back. I have a bajorn it works great for hubby sucks for me can you recomend an other? 2- I let Mia nurse whenever she wants to. Right now normal every 2-3 hrs. Every so often she goes down to every hour. I try to let har thinking a growth spell is coming on. Then out of the blue she vomits all over the place. Masive amounts everything she has drank. Then 10 min latter she's hungry again. I let her nurse knowing that she empty from the massive vomit she just had. It's just difficult to figure her out some times. I make plenty of milk thats not the problem. She just gorges and it all comes back up. I don't want toschedule her because normaly she realy good about coming off the boob when she's full.

First, calm down.  Relax.

At 5 weeks your supply is starting to regulate and you won't feel engorged anymore.  This just means that your body isn't producing anything MORE THAN what baby needs.

Many people have a very hard time getting anything out of a pump.  THis is NOT an indicator of low supply.  It just means you aren't relaxing enough to get stuff out.  The best thing to do when pumping is to relax and think about your baby.

To determine if baby is getting enough, count wet diapers.  6 or more in a day is good!

it is normal for breast fed babies to not poop sometimes.  THey use everything in the breast milk so there is less waste to come out.

Sounds like over supply... You can block feed, meaning you only feed on one side for a period of time, expecially when she goes every hour, then switch and do the same time it will help regulate your`supply to her demand. sorry for the generic anwser left hand typing... if nobody helps i'll explain more later

thanks again! I like to consider myself non-judgmental, but every now and then it becomes very clear to me that I, too, have biases based on not a whole lot. Luckily, I think, I'm open to revising the way I view things. The only experience I had with women who proclaimed they practiced AP was this one person in my old LLL group. She still had her almost 1 year old in a sling the entire time we met and her 3 year old was out of control. That's where my mis-informed view of AP bringing up clingy, whiny kids who got away with everything came from. Now that I write that I realize what a duh! thing that is...basing my view of AP on that one parent.

But I am really glad that you posted all this wonderful information on what AP really is and is not. My MIL is one of those women who's been known to say things like "you need to get that kid out of your room," "if you're tired just put some cereal in his bottle," "he eats too often, obviously he needs more than what you're giving him." She definitely did not practice AP, but I have to laugh because now that I see the difference, and realize AP isn't permissive and clingy, I realize it's what I do, and what my husband does naturally.

Anyway, thanks for shining the light...hope you all don't think I'm a jerk for not realizing what a great thing AP really is! We're all still learning (except my MIL...she already knows what's best.)

1- I'm not a fan of the snugli. I have two slings, one from http://www.slinglings.comand one that a friend made for me that is a wrap sling. I love the slingling for young babies. It's easy to nurse in and for baby to sleep all cuddled up in. The wrap sling that I have is open on the sides so I do't use it until baby can sit well on his own, but then it's great. I've heard wonderful things about the Maya Wrap, and it looks very comfortable and supportive for both mama and baby. Depending on what you find out here, you might want to post this question in PWI on it's own to hear from all the mamas out there.

2-My first question is is she vomitting or spitting up? I ask because I would think that vomitting would cause slightly more concern that spitting up, but if it is over supply that may be normal. I don't know a lot about oversupply. But, it she's just spitting up and it's not bothering her there may not be a big issue. Two of my three children have been spitter-uppers and it hasn't bothered them a bit. We have joked that if they didn't spit up so much they wouldn't need to nurse so frequently, but in reality who knows...either way we don't find a big problem with it. I had a pedi tell me "it's just a laundry problem!"

good luck

1) I suggest a Mei Tai, which is what I use myself   I have a BabyHawk, and they make them with extra long straps for tall or wider folk. I have found that it doesn't hurt my back at all (I had a typical front carrier, hated it and it hurt my back). Look into that option ^_^ You can usually find a local sales rep who will help you learn to use one and let you try it out before buying.
http://www.babyhawk.com

2) That could very well be oversupply or overactive letdown. Try switching to nursing on only one side for a day or 2 and see if you notice a difference
Latch her on one side, when she is "done", burp her and then offer the same side again. If she won't have it, and is still displaying signs of hunger, then offer the second breast, but if she is satisfied then just leave her be

That's why I share the info whenever anybody asks. Basically it is following your intuition, so many good people pratice a lot of it without every knowing what it is... and Yes there are people who take it to an extreme and are slinging just because there lazy and that's lame....
