well usually two things are from green poop, sickness or fore/hind milk imbalance. if he is spitting up and it's not normal for him to do that i would assume hes sick. but i cant be certain. maybe it's the tylenol? does he throw up the tylenol at all?

My husband is Navy. I feel like I've got a little experience now too...but I still miss her. She was such a wonderfully loving and giving person. I spent so much time with her with my second that she really became a friend.

Hi everyone I have a BF question.

My son is a week old today. Currently, I feed him about ever 2-3 hours consistantly. The docs at the hospital and at his 48 hour appt all said that he needs to be fed every 2-3 hours, even if he's sleeping, then wake him up because he'll just keep on sleeping if we don't.

First question- He eats a LOT at every feeding. He's on for a good 20-30 minutes each time and eats pretty much that whole time without much pausing. After almost every single feeding, as I pull him off (and while he's being burped) he burps up a lot, normally soaking his bib and clothes. So I'm wondering, should I space out his feedings by a little bit? I've cut out dairy and caffeine like his doc suggested but his reflux hasn't improved. I'm wondering if he's overeating because of the amount he burps up each time.

Second question- Should I continue to keep waking him during the night every 2-3 hours? Or should I just let him sleep and rely on him to wake up and cry if he's hungry?

I know I should follow his ped's advice, but I know every baby and situation is different so I just want to gather opinions on what I could do differently. Thanks so much for any help.

I wouldn't wake him to eat, unless he has a weight problem or a medical reason to need to....

Especially if your waking him, and he is spitting up.

Yeah, I absolutely HATE waking him. I don't think it's necessary but that's what the doc said and since I'm new at this I really only have her advice to follow. I think I'm going to try every 3-4 hours now, and see if that reduces his spit up. I really just think he over eats and it has nowhere else to go! He's super healthy and not jaundiced and a perfect weight so I doubt I have anything to worry about by spacing out his feedings. But I just wanted to ask just in case!

I wouldnt bother waking him either. I never made an eating schedule with my daughter...when she roots around or starts eating her fist I know she is hungry. Thats how Ive done it from day one. Now its a little bit more confusing because she is teething and eats her fist just to chew on it...its her favorite teether..lol.

i wouldnt wake him up. a bf baby will get huingry faster and wake up. if you feed on demand he will eat when he's hungry. i wouldnt even worry about it unless he slept like 8 hours or something. good luck hun, sounds like you're doing good. your nurses are probably used to formula fed babes, so they dont really understand how a bf baby works or something, IDK.

I plan on going out and drinking tomorrow night. My first time out since I became pregnant. I am so freaking nervous about leaving my daughter although I know she will be in good hands. She hasnt really had very many bottles...and I dont really know how many onces she drinks in one feeding. Shes 3months...11.11 pounds...any of you girls think you may be able to give me an estimate or is it pointless because all babies are different...

Another question...pump n dump...its a myth you have already confirmed to me. But...Im sure I will have to pump sometime while I am drinking to relieve myself...that does need dumped right, that will be contaminated so to speak ?

yes i would dump that milk, as there is no way to tell how much alcohol is really in your system at the time.

Thanks everybody for your input. It makes me feel better about choosing not to follow exactly what the docs have told us. I know every baby is different and I just wanna do what's best for my little guy. I'm so determined to make breastfeeding work.

Around 3 months of age, my son probably ate 4-6 ounces every 3 hours. He was quite the piggy though, but it is good to have too much stored than not enough! And yes, if you pump during your drinking session or directly after, you will have to dump it.

My son is 3 weeks old and I have been exclusively pumping since he was born. I ususally do it every 3-4 hours. Its been going good but the last 2 days I have not been at home to pump that often. I only pumped like 3 times. I feel I have hurt my supply, the last time I pumped I didn't get as much as I used to. Is there anyway to get it back??? Have I hurt my supply?
