He usually goes about 15 min on the first side and about 5 when I switch. He is a very aggressive eater which is good cause I have a very fast flow. I get 4 to 5 oz a side when I pump and it only takes about 15 min. And yes thank god he doesn't wake every 2 hours at night anymore   that was rough on mommy.

Thanks, I read that wrong lol.

And still 18 months is still a bit young, especially for a boy...but anyone, I would give it to him...but that's me

Sounds like blisters to me, hon. I have purple spots that are raised on the edges of my right nipple. I am pumping until they clear up & using Lansinoh Lanolin. I also have shooting pains, which we think is because of Raynaud’s phenomenon (blanching of the nipple) 'vasospasm'. The ends of my nipples turn white right after nursing or pumping. I guess it prevents blood from getting to my nipples. I just started taking Vitamin B6 for that. Read aboutit, 1/2 way down on the page:

I have a question and sorry if it's been asked before. I skimmed through these pages and didn't see anything about it. This is my 3rd baby, but my first time breasfeeding. He is doing so well. I'm not having any pains or any problem with him latching..knock on wood!!

My question is...does what I eat affect him through the breast milk? I am trying to stay away from spicy foods and things like that because I have heard that it does affect them. But then I have heard from others that it doesn't. So I am a little confused about the whole thing.

Reason I am asking is because some times after I eat certain foods, he will have more bowel movements and they will be a little more runny or something like that, or he might cry a little more acting as if his belly hurts him. So I am not sure.. he's 18 days old btw. Just curious about it all.

yes, some of what you eat will change the composition of breastmilk. However, if you ate a lot of spicy foods while pregnant, it probably won't affect the baby because what we eat also affects the amniotic fluid while pregnant.

Congratulations on your choice to breastfeed this time around. I hope it goes well for you!

I agree with Lynn every baby is different... so I would just play around with your diet and see what upsets your babies tummy and what doesnt. And invest in some gas drops, they work wonders for my son.

Okay, I don't know if this is a question or more of a statement but...  I had an Ameda pump that I used with my oldest daughter and it's starting to loose some of it's suction so I bought just a manuel Avent Isis for now while I decided what I was going to buy next and I LOVED it. But, then today I put it together and it would not work. I tried several different times to make sure it was together correctly and tightly but nothing. I am so bummed. So, today and I am just going to buy a medela like I had been thinking I was going to. I still wish I could get my manuel to work like it had been cause it was really fast and effective. Anyone know what could be wrong with my manuel Isis?

I had that problem with mine one time after my hubby cleaned it for me. He put the little white tab looking thing that goes up into the bottom of the pump (the part you attach to the bottle) in the wrong way. He put it in from the top, so no suctioning could happen. Maybe you forgot to put that piece in or maybe it is in upside down. I have the same pump and I love it! I pump twice a day with it at work.

Ok so this post might sound crazy... I was wondering if your breasts can become immune to your pump?

Like I have been using the same pump since I went back to work at 8 weeks and it has worked fine, never had a problem. But now I just can't get anything to happen in the pumping area! I can't get my milk to let down, I know it's in there. At first I thought it was a supply problem but I was off for a week straight and breastfeed exclusively and my son had no problems getting full.

My pump came with extra pieces, but I thought they were in case a part broke. Am I suppose to "update" the pieces?

I have no clue what is going on and I really don't want to get another pump this far in the ball game. My son is 5 months and I am planning on going until he is a year, but I just don't understand why I can't get it to work.

It sounds to me like I can't get the darn thing latched correctly, like when I pump I hear a lot of air. Can your breasts change shape over time from feeding?

When you hear air...it could be the little piece that the milk comes through when it drops into the bottle. It could have a tear in it. So try replacing that. Do you have a double or single?

As long as it is put together correctly like eastonsmom said about the white disk, you might need to wet the silicone pieces slightly. Sometimes mine will be like that and not have any suction so I take off the 2 big main pieces, wet the rims of the pump, then put the pieces back on and that is usually what works. Hope you get yours working, I love mine too.

You said you hear a lot or air, does that mean you no longer have the suction you had before or is it still the same? I don't think your breasts would change shape enough to affect pumping.
