I don't know when we're going to ween  I keep saying at the one year mark but as that time grows closer and sloser I become more and more weary! I don't know who it'll be harder on me or her!  . . . . . . Wow after all that struggling and after many a times wanting to quit (especiallyaround 3 am with her screamingand my nips about to fall off)and Now the time comes closer and I don't want to   How old is your son and when are you guys weening

my son will be 11 months next week. I said 6 months, that came and went. Then I said a year, but now i'm leaning more towards 2 years. I thought it was odd at firstbut really I mean the more I do it the less "weird" it seems. To me a month older doesn't seem like that much any more.

Anyways i'm rambling, but 2 years. I'm hoping he well self-wean by then but if not then i'll step in and assist.

haha lylian is 8 months as well, and still as much as a boobah freak as she was in the beginning, if not more!!i think it's an attachment thing now instead of a nutrition thing, thats why they like it more because they dont necessarily need it as much, not they just love their mamas and thats how they show us

i've had times when it took me more than one try to get the latch right, so try not to worry about that. as she gets older she will start to just do it herself with less and less help from you.

haha i agree with that part. like you see other toddlers nursing and go OMG, but then the odler your child gets you start to realize why they were doing it.when we see older kids we just see it as an older kid, but with our kids we slowly transitioned to that age, so we dontrealize how big they are really getting   some people probably see lylian and go omg shes way to old to be doing that, but she's not too old at all. we plan to go to age 2 as well and if shes not weanedi will step in too. i think once you can talk to them and they understand you completely, then you can talk to them about weaning.

She just turned a month old yesterday!
Thank you for your advice I'm definitely not worried as much now!

My son has always been primarily bottlefed (breastmilk) but has never had a problem transitioning between breast and bottle. He would take either one and be happy as long as he was getting fed. Typically, he nurses 1-2 times a day and gets a bottle the rest the time.

However, he is now refusing the breast completely. He latches on, takes a couple of swallows and then rips off the boob screaming. At first, I thought it was just a nursing strike, but this has been going on for 2 weeks now. Is this just him wanting the faster flowing bottle or do you think there could be another reason? Any tips on getting him to like the breast again?

I always make sure I have let down before he latches because he likes instant gratification, lol. I cannot get rid of the bottle completely because I work and he has to have those for daycare. He also has been super fussy/cranky these past two weeks so I'm not sure what is going on. Any help would be appreciated!

does he have signs of teething? I know that my son would go through nursing strikes when cutting teeth. The sucking needed for BFing is stronger than that of a bottle and causes more pressure on the gums.

I've thought it may be teething but I can't really tell. He always wants to put everything in his mouth anyway, though lately he seems to want to chew more. And chilled teethers does seem to help his fussiness sometimes. I don't see any swelling or white spots under the gums though. I've heard that they dislike nursing while teething, but I didn't know why so that makes sense about the pressure. Is there any sure way to tell if they are teething or not?

just the swelling or the white spots... but the discomfort can come way before you can see either.
