My little girl has started doing this systematic clench and release on my boob with one hand. Watching her, it's just squeeze-release, squeeze-release...I can't tell if she's trying to get more or slow the flow a little, but it's pretty funny. She doesn't even look like she knows that she's doing it!

the only thing I would suggest is switching breasts when she starts fussing/fighting. Let her eat from the other breast and then put her back on the 1st breast to finish up. That way she is fuller and not so adamate about getting milk!

ok... let's see. How much do you pump out when you pump? I would probablyleave 4 oz bottles. Leave an extra the first couple of days and see how it goes. That way if 4 ozs isn't enough their will be extra until it gets figured out.

I would pump on the same schedule your baby eats on. That way when you get home he won't have just had a bottle and you can feed him soon after getting home, as opposed to having to pump once more.

i dont know how much i will pump out because when i pumped before it was a crappy manual pump and i got 2 oz after 20 minutes of pumping. so every time i feed him i should also pump? he empties both breasts each time he nurses, so do i just pump after he is done...?

When I was getting ready to go back to work, I pumped everytime after I finished nursing. At first I didn't get much, but I slowly starting getting a good amount.
My daughter was 3 months when I went back and I left her 4 ounce bottles. Now, at almost 7 months, I leave her 4-5 ounces for each bottle and I try to leave enough for one extra in case she has a rough day! I have also asked the babysitter to try to get her last feeding in at around 5:00pm since I get home close to 8. It gives me a chance to change and get settled beforenursing her one last time before she goes to bed!

Is there a normal time for a child to self wean???

Child-led weaning occurs when a child no longer has a need to nurse - nutritionally or emotionally. A baby who self-weans is usually well over a year old, is getting most of his nutrition from solids, is drinking well from a cup, and cuts down on nursing gradually. If children are truly allowed to self-wean in their own time, most will do so somewhere between the 2nd and 4th year. Obviously, some will wean before this time and some will wean after this time, too.

yeah maybe... sometimes they go through nursing strikes. The link I posted talks about them and how to get around them.
