You really don't need to pump and dump unless you plan on drinking more than a few drinks. You calculate out 2 hours for every drink you have and that's how long you need to wait before bfing again. Sooo...if you have more than just a few drinks, you do need to pump and dump. I read on some study and only about 2% of the alcohol you drink actually winds up in your milk.

You can take the 200mg Motrin but if want the 800mg(Which are awesome) you have to talk to your doctor about that, you can ony get that prescibed.

I have a question. I took a video of myself breastfeeding Toula..because I'm having issues STILL. She yanks off and cries..and I know she's hungry, but I need help. I've seen a LC and she wasn't much help..she was actually pretty rough and kinda mean. My question is..can I post it on the site..or will I be in trouble because it has my nipple pop out a couple times when she rips off? I've tried so many different things..and maybe if I show what's happening..someone can be like "OH! I had that same problem and I...." blah blah! Please help! Can I post..or is it inappropriate?

this happened with my son and I on two different occasions. The first time was because my letdown was slow and he would get mad, pop off and scream.Yet he would latch back on and continue nursing because he was still hungry. I remedied this with fenugreek. At first I wasn't taking enough to notice an effect, but once I upped the dose, my letdown improved and his screaming stopped.
The second issue we have (and this is recent) is that he's tired, and comfort sucks but gets mad that milk is still coming out when all he wants to do is sleep. I give him a pacifier and just put him to bed.
Hope this helps!

Here's my opinion...this is a forum for moms and you're posting in a thread for breastfeeding so there is nothing wrong with it. I have seen lots of videos on other sites about breastfeeding and you see lots of nipple in those. I don't see why you would get any flack from any of the breastfeeding moms...just keep in mind that people have lots of different views and opinions of bf and someone may say something to you. As an added thought...remember that once something is posted on the internet...it's there forever. You cannot control who sees your video so make sure you are prepared for that.

I had the same problem. My milk wasnt letting down fast enough for her. I was told to pump for just long enough to get a good letdown and flow going then put her on. It really helped. Now I dont have to do that anymore, she is growing more patience I think.   Hang in there.

The problem with pumping is you dont make as much milk as you would breastfeeding and it doesnt get as much milk out as the baby could. If I were you I would definitely see a lactation consultant...maybe at your hospital?...and get her to latch on...Im sure she can do it, it just might take some work. The more you continue just pumping...your supply will probably dwindle especially since it isnt high enough right now. There are medications you can take to help with supply and I also suggest continue pumping 5 minutes after the milk stops coming out because this stimulates the body to make more milk

Have you tried a nipple shield?? If latching is the only problem, that should really help a lot!

Otherwise, you need to pump as often as possible and continue pumping for 5 minutes after the milk stops, like Julie said. It is possible to pump and bottle feed only, I have a friend that has done it for 5 months now. But, it takes A LOT of work to keep up. There are medications that your doctor could give you or you could try fenugreek to boost your supply. Good luck!

Ok I'm breastfeeding and I am (knocking on wood!!) so happy that my daughter has taken to it so easily. At worst we wrestle for a few minutes then shes on! But my ? is I'm worried since I'm mostly just pumping that my milk is slowing down?? It just seems like I'm not getting as much as I used too, and I'm only 2 weeks after delivery... Any ideas or tips on what could be causing my milk production slow down??

Are you pumping after every feeding? Have you increased the time in between pumping? I am primarily a pumper as well, and it takes a lot of dedication. I know the temptation is strong to either skip a pumping (especially at night when you are exhausted) or stretch the time in between pumpings a little longer. This could wreak havoc on your supply. If you haven't been skipping or delaying the pump times, then you could try some Fenugreek.

Another thing I have noticed is that the milk slows down the longer it has been since I have actually brought my son to breast. For example, ideally, it only take me 20 minutes to pump 5 oz from each side. However, sometimes it can take up to 45 minutes to an hour if I am engorged or it has been awhile since I have nursed my son. The milk tends to come out slowly...just a drip each cycle. So make sure you are pumping long enough, even if it may seem there isn't much coming out. It helps me to actually nurse my son when this starts to happen, and I notice my milk production goes faster for a day or two after he has nursed.

Your milk supply could just be regulating itself as well. AT first, you tend to have a TON of milk because your body isn't sure how much your baby needs. Once it figures that out, your supply may go down to match what your baby needs. As long as you are producing enough for her, then try not to worry about it too much.

My little girl was pulling off and crying (or even crying while she ate) because of reflux issues...it simply hurt to eat!

Thanks very much. I am currently only pumping right before bed and like once or twice more. I will try to make sure I pump more though, hopefully that will help out.
