re: BREASTFEEDING!!!!

I am being perscribed oxycodone(percocet) and an antibiotic for my dental pain and infection. I have a fractured tooth that isn't getting pulled until Tuesday. Has anyone ever taken percocet while nursing? Did it affect your baby at all? I was taking them before right before I had my root canal a couple months ago and was told they were safe. I just want some more reassurance before I start taking them again for the next couple of days.

It made Cadence extremely tired--since it is excreted through your milk. Is there is possibility that your doc could prescribe another pill that is approved by AAP? There aren't many...only 3 that are approved. You can find approved antibiotics on this page too. Here is a list:

guys i am seriously ready to scream. jonas will be 7 weeks on sunday.for the past....two or so days he will not eat from my right boob. ok, he eats from it, but only for 5 minutes tops. he'll eat from the left for maybe 45 minutes all day today. he latches on the right, suckles, then he starts sucking and swallowing (which im assuming is my milk letting down, i cant feel it on the right, and hardly ever feel it on the left).
anyways. he sucks and swallows steadily for maybe...2-3 minutes, then just beats his mouth against my nipple, sucks for half a second, and repeat, until hes red from screaming and his whole body his arched, and his legs are kicking.
he is fine on the left breast.
please help me out, what is his deal? im about to go crazy. not to mention my left boob is getting more attention then it did on my honeymoon.

just had to tell you ladies what my 20 month old daughter did tonight. she took my bath and body wallflower out of the wall, lifted up her shirt, and put the flower against her chest. she was 'pumping'. lmao!! she's really clever, using the 'flower' as the pump, who would've thought?? i've been wondering how long it's going to take her before she starts breastfeeding her dolls. that's next i'm sure!

ahh thats rough. I dont really know, I have heard of babies having prefrence, my son doesnt, but thats pretty extreme. It is definitely something I would bring up with my lactation consultant. Also you might want to pump the right breast so when he does eat from it, it isnt so overwhelming because its so full from him not eating from it. That may help if it makes any sense.

i dried up when she was around 6 months old, but i nurse my son, he's 7 weeks old. i'd nurse her still if she knew how, or was even interested in trying, but she hasn't, yet anyway!

wow, 2 years old? my son is only 2 months and I'm already thinking about supplementing with formula on occasion. Its getting sooo hard to keep up with him!!... and its really going to be difficult when I go back to work in a couple weeks. Thank goodness, I've given him bottles of pumped milk several times now and he takes it with no problems at all. I guess I'll just have to wait and see how it goes.

thanks. it makes sense. the thing is, my right breast isnt full! it blows my mind. it feels super soft and empty, im surprised its not getting firm at all. i feel like he is frustrated because he cant get enough or something. ive never seen a lac consultant, so i might have to find one next week if this keeps up over the weekend. thanks for the tip!

Hey ladies. I just had my little girl last week Monday, the 12th and I am in mommy heaven! When I had my son, he was colic, so we had problems with BFing, but this time around is WONDERFUL! She latched, she drinks great, poops and burps great, its just GREAT! I feel like I am this hardcore booby mom and don't want to go any where if she needs feeding.

Here's a question.
I am getting an electric pump on Wednesday and I am a tad concerned on when to use it. She has used a bottle a couple of times.....once at the hospital and once today when I was at school. I pumped the bottle that she had at school today and my nips got super sore from that. I know that I want to BF for as long as I can, but how do you all get a life? Is formula bad to supplement if I need to be somewhere and I can't feed her? If I pump and store the milk, will she lose her interest to latch and will loss of stimulation to my breast stop my milk production?

If any one can give me some advice, that would be great! Thanks!

First of all- I go places with my son all the time...I just bf in public. So dont be afraid to go to the store or mall or wherever you need to go. As for supplementing...I always use my breast milk if for some reason im not going to be home for a few hours....Noah has never gotten formula. But i know a lot of people do supplement with it. Using formula in the begining or to often can definitely hurt your supply. As for your breasts hurting with the pump- it will get better. It shouldnt hurt after a couple weeks or so. I think if your supplement a lot she may or may not lose interest in the breast...every baby is different.

My son will be 3 months June 1, and I went back to work right at 6 weeks PP. I pump once at work (I only work 5 hours) and pump plenty for him to have the next day. Any time he sleeps a little longer and I start to feel full, I pump then too, just to help make sure I have extra for when I do go somewhere. Plus it helps keep my supply up. I am a single mom, so having a little bit of a life is very important, no one to share the stress with. Eli always takes the bottle from anyone other than me. I always feed him right when I get home or I pump if he is asleep. As long as you try to pump every couple of hours, it shouldn't hurt your supply.
I have an Avent electric pump that I love. I couldn't ever get the hang of the manual one, it hurt toooo bad. Good luck!!

Yeah, I have the manual Avent pump and it made my nipples so sore! I am getting a really good electric pump on Wednesday this week and I am really excited. I love bfing and I don't want to stop, so hearing any info on it is so nice! Thank you.

I don't want to give her formula and I will do whatever it takes to stick it out with the boobs, but I know it won't hurt her. It's just the supply and her getting use to the bottle that concern me. I pumped a lot with my son because it hurt so bad since he didn't latch properly and I got nice blisters on my nips, OUCH! By pumping.......w/ a manual pump.....which I got 4 ounces from both boobs AND I thought my hand was gonna fall off from pumping; it made my first experience terrible! So this is such a blessing and I am already losing so much weight, very pleased  Thanks so much for your input!
