re: BREASTFEEDING!!!!

posted 13th May
Hey Ladies!! I went to my pp check up yesterday and everything is looking great. The doctor gave me these birth control pills, and he told me that they might mess with my milk supply. I really don't want to use anyother birth control but the pills. But I really don't want to lose my supply or get pregnant anytime soon.

My question is: If I take these pills my milk supply might go down? Is there a way I can take fenugreek to try to keep it up. Does that make sense.

My Dr. warned me about the same thing. I figured better safe than sorry, so I am on the depo shot. I am really happy about not having to remember to take a pill at the same time everyday so the shot is great. I would just talk about different options and if you really want to go with the pill just make sure to keep your supply up. Fenugreek is doing wonders for me, I can pump out 8 ounces and feed my little one. Just keep in mind it will make you smell like maple syrup.

Haha, yeah I heard that you might smell like maple syrup that is crazy. I thought about the shot but I sometimes have no rides to appts yesterday I was lucky. Hubby is in training for his deployment and they sometimes will not let him out to take me to the doctors and plus I can't drive(still need to learn). I am going to see if taking the pill while taking fenugreek will maintain my supply and if that doesn't work then I will stop the pill and just use A LOT of condums, lol. thxs.

The mini-pill is a progesterone-only pill that's used for breastfeeding mothers. It won't affect your milk supply. You have to make sure you're nursing exclusively for it to be effective, though. If you aren't pumping to make up for missed feedings, you stand a higher change of getting pregnant. I'm not on anything because, well, with two kids and both of us working full-time, we're never in the mood. But when I decide to go back on bc, I'll get the mini-pill.

I was on the mini pill for four years before coming off to get pregnant. It was effective for me during the whole 4 years even without breastfeeding. The mini pill just gives you a smaller window of time to take it in and still be covered. My OB told me when I started on it that it is a much safer pill (healthwise) for women to take but they don't like to prescribe it to younger women because they often don't take it at EXACTLY the same time each day (the window is 3 hours I think) and thus they have problems with younger women becoming pregnant despite taking the mini pill. So if you know you're able to remember to take it at the same time each day, no exceptions, you shouldn't have any problems with it's effectiveness whether you breastfeed or not. I'm on it again now and will continue to stay on it even when I'm finished with breastfeeding. I haven't noticed any difference in my milk supply since starting back on it.

Hi! I was wondering if any of you have/had a problem with over supply. My little girl is spitting up after ever meal and seems to get drowned by milk when she eats (choking, gulping, etc.) and I'm wondering if that isn't the reason for her fussing and spitting up. If anyone had dealt with this, do you have any tips/techniques to help so that she isn't so miserable? I already feed her only on one side at a time...
This is the first time posting in this thread, so if this had been asked, I'm sorry.

Um, he works for you. He can't tell you "My way or the highway." You should definitely find a different way to get the other pills.

Go to Planned Parenthood. I have always had good experiences with them and they will give you whatever method you want.

I thought about that but the closes planned parenthood is in Raleigh, NC. That is alittle over a hour drive. Thxs anyways! Is there any other place to get them?

You might have a fast let-down which might be why she is "...being drowned..." if you pump a bit at first it might give her a steadier flow. And your supply will get smaller if you only give her what she wants/needs. Most women make too much milk at first until their bodies figure out what their baby needs. Is she spitting up more than 1-2 Tablespoons??

Thanks  ! She spits up a decent amount, but is still gaining weight well and is on meds for reflux.
