There is a slight difference in the flow, but mainly my left nipple is formed a little differently than my right. The right one really stands out and the left...not so much. My husband went to the store and bought a nipple shield for me and it has worked wonders! I am still pretty engorged right now so I am pumping in between feedings to try to relieve some pressure, but he is doing so much better with the left breast. Last night he fed off of it for almost 20 minutes. I was so relieved both mentally and physically, but then I couldn't get him to feed from the right side so I had to go and pump. I just got my milk in yesterday morning and am in shock at just how much I was able to pump out. That's nuts!

I leave mine in the bottle, but avent has little caps for storage. I have never had a problem with my breastmilk from the freezer.

you can freeze milk in the bottle as long as the bottle is rated for freezing. Some are and some arent. The air touching it wont cause a problem though.

Hey ladies. I haven't been on much cause I started work. Boooo.....

Anyway--it looks like we might have thrush. My doc thinks its mastitis....but my symptoms are like thrush. Cadence does not have a white mouth though. Severe gassiness and clicking when nursing though. My symptoms are sharp, shooting, stabbing pains in the breast and cherry red nips with a whitish tint. Sound like thrush???

My doc gave me Nystatin and an antibiotic. For those who have had thrush--do you continue to nurse? I hate to not nurse since she gets bottles during the week while I am at work. What do you do with the pumped milk? etc...I go back to work tomorrow and will have to pump all day since I am working 12hr shifts. Can I still use the milk that I pump throughout the day??? Not sure what to do.....

Thanks in advance.

Breastmilk can stay at room temperature for 8-10 hours. It can stay in the refrigerator for up to 8 days. Depending on the type of freezer setup you have, it can be anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 months. A deep freezer can keep breastmilk safe for 6 months or more.

I had my daughter on the 7th and I've been tryin really hard to stick with breast feeding because i know it's what's best for her but it's just really getting hard.... she did really good the first night but i don't think she's latching on right because my breasts hurt so bad when she's feeding and afterwards. It even hurts to pump. My right breast is so full of milk but for some reason she won't eat off that side, she'll only take my left side and when i pump my right side hardly anything will come out even tho i know there's a ton of milk there cause i can feel it and i like alot and it hurts beyond belief. I don't know what to do about this....someone please help cause i don't want to have to stop breast feeding her over this.

Try alternating warm and cold compresses, you may have a duct blockage that's preventing milk flow. Don't quit, keep trying to breastfeed off of that side to encourage the flow to finally pass through and treat the engorgement.

Thanks for the advice. I pumped tonight and actuallly got more than usual out and they feel so much better now, earlier i seriously felt like my boobs weighed about 10lbs each lol but i have noticed that they feel better after i take a shower from the warm water so i'll def start using the compresses like you suggested.

Just hang in there. It can take a while for your breasts to get used to pumping. The way the pump expresses milk is not the same as the baby. When you are pumping, try your best to relax and that may help as well. It is going to hurt for a bit while your nips get used to all the attention. Have you been using lanolin?? Use it after each feeding and before you get in the shower. Good luck!!

My little one is doing great with BF with one minor exception. She eats like her father. The second she latches on she starts gulping down like there is no tomorrow. Because of this she has trouble breathing and eating at the same time and she ends up swallowingaTON of air. Sometimes I have to unlatch her just so she can catch her breath. Of course I burp her but I never seem to get it all, so for an hour or so after eating she still is spitting up small amounts and gets the hiccups like crazy. I know all the air upsets her stomach sometimes. Any advice or suggestions? My lactation consultant is on vacation so I will have to wait until next week to ask her advice.

Camden did the exact same thing! She's gotten better at it over time, but she did that really bad in the beginning.
I would just always try to feed her, and after a few minutes.. make her burp. She would usually scream when I pulled her away, but once I got her to burp, I know she felt better and would usually eat a little more relaxed.
Most new babies get the hiccups a lot after eating though, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.
And as for the gas, I would try bicycling her legs or doing "baby crunches" .. both seem to help really well..
It just took Camden some time before she learned how to eat without eating like a pig.. She''ll get the hang of it soon enough!
