re: BREASTFEEDING!!!!

My son was tongue tied. I say was because when my MIL took him to get circumsized they clipped under his tongue so he wouldn't be tongue tied anymore. I had no idea there was even such a thing. He never had any trouble eating, one because I have a very fast let down and two because Ithink we both got used to it.

thats a good idea about the cold cloth before nursing. I will have to remember that because she likes to attempt to bite me sometimes..or use me as a pacifier. I have learned to keep one near me so I can quickly get her to let go of the boobie and put the paci in her mouth.

lol we have to stick together. I am afraid of teething. He has bitten me once already and it hurt for days after.

Have you tried Gentian Violet? It worked wonders for me! I felt relief the same day I started.

When I said during eating, I meant during the actual process of suck and swallow.

Oh ok.

I have another question..My daughter was premature..so I have tons of breast-milk stored in the freezer. My lactation consultant..said I should give my son a couple of oz a day..to continue to boost his immunity. My boyfriend says no..because it'll loosen his bowels..and we're trying to pt. What do you ladies think?

ha ha this is to funny!!!!! I'm so thankful I'm not having any breastfeeding issues at this point. About 2 weeks ago I thought my son was on a nursing strike, but actually I was over feeding him. Once chewing on the hands didn't mean I'm hungry, and he stopped rooting, I can't tell.. I just have to guess and I guess I was offering it to often, now He's getting on more of a schedule, and it's easier to tell!!!

How often is everyone feeding during the day? My son wants to eat every 2 hours in the day time, but at night he will go from9 till 3.

Ok, first of all, PT training a baby? Personally I don't agree with that, but to each their own.

I would choose the breast milk over PT any day. the benefits of breastmilk are well researched.

Secondly, Yes, Gentian violet. You mix it with equal amounts of water, and use a q-tip to apply to your nipples just before nursing every session. Yes, Brooklyn's mouth was a little purple and so was my nipples. Make sure you nurse without a shirt on, or a shirt you don't care about, and same for baby. Use until it goes away. You can get it at most drug stores and don't need a prescription.

That's funny that your daughter tries to breastfeed. I'm surprised Madison hasn't tried that one yet!

how old is your son? My daughters always nursed more during the day and I was ok with that if I was getting more sleep at night. I would say both nursed every 2-3 hours for at least the first 5-6 weeks or so. I was home 8 weeks with Maddy and 10 weeks with Brooklyn and thankfully both slowed a bit before I went back to work. If this is somethingthat is new for your baby it's probably because he is in a growth spurt. These usually happen at 10 days, 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months.

My son is 10 weeks old. He has always eaten about every 2 hours. I work from home so it isn't a big deal but it would be nice if he eventually goes 3 hours in the day. During his last growth spurt he was eating almost every hour. He is a big boy so I don't know if that has any correlation.

size can definitely play a role. Just be thankful he doesn't still eat every two hours at night ;)

How long does he nurse for on each side? Do you make sure he nurses long enough on the first side to get the hindmilk? This is what will help keep him full longer.
