dangit!! I wish yall would stop saying that!!! I always get this mental picture of a set of ta-tas with thimbles in place of the nipples!!!

I will be happy if Kalyssa will get rid of this darn thrush so my boobies will feel better. This hurts and my nipples are so sore like they are during that first week of bfing. I am really considering quitting. Maybe if I boil my bras and everything else that comes in contact with my boobs or her mouth in water and vinegar it will work. I really want to keep bfing but I just dont have the intestinal fortitude that some of yall ladies have.

Actually my daughter does that between sucking. And I know she can't be full when she does it..because it'll be a few minutes after she's latched on. Baby Love had posted a link..in the resources and links forum that I think may solve the problem I have..which is labeled as suck confusion..where they do bite down on the nipple..because some bottle nipples they bite down on..to make the flow come faster.

My son is cutting his first teeth... and he has been reall chomping down on my nipple the past three-four days. I noticed this morning that a little corner of his bottom tooth has made its way through. So i'm not sure how breastfeeding and teeth will work for us. Mostly b/c his tongue tie prohibits him from being able to cover his bottom gums completely when sucking.

I hope your daughters thrush gets better, every time I start to think about weaning him in the future I cry. I never thought I would become this attached to our time together. But I seriously hope we can make it past the teeth and continue until he is 1.

LOL.
Lilsteph: My baby is using his tongue during breastfeeding, the way he would with a bottle, so I am sore and have blisters now because he has nipple confusion. So I'm not sure about what to do for biting, but if anyone breast and bottle feeds, and find you are getting sore, read this:
http://www.lllohio.org/help/bottlefeedingbreastfedbaby.pdf
and hereis the post I wrote about it:

This may also help train your 'confused' baby:

Try this advice I got from a LaLeche advisor to encourage him to use his tongue correctly when breastfeeding:

(From the Breastfeeding Answerbook) Walking back on the tongue: before putting baby to the breast, brush baby's lips a few times to encourage him to open his mouth. Insert a clean finger (fingernail trimmed) pad side down, on the tip of baby's tongue and count slowly to three before releasing the pressure.
*Release the pressure, keeping the finger in baby's mouth and move back a little farther on his tongue, pressing again to a count of three.
*Move back on the tongue one or two more times.
*Try to avoid gagging baby. If baby does gag, notice how far back in the baby's mouth the finger was and avoid putting it that far back the next time.
*Repeat the entire "tongue walk" three or four times before each nursing.

Or try this if the other does not encourage Nikolas to keep his tongue down as he latches.
Put a clean upturned index finger into baby's mouth with the fingernail side pressing gently on baby's tongue.
*leave finger in that position for about thirty seconds while baby sucks on it.
*Turn the finger over slowly so that the finger pad is on the baby's tongue and push down on his tongue while gradually pulling the finger out of his mouth.
*Repeat this exercise several times before latching baby onto the breast.

I had to train her by pushing down on her tongue while she was sucking..so she wouldn't thrust the nipple out. When I read that site...off the link you posted..it said to use bottles with longer nipples to teach the baby not to bite down..and mimic what they do with te breast. But my daughter does that gag then..when something is placed on the middle of her tongue. So IDK what I'm going to do

I've got yeast in my breasts/nipples and my baby doesn't show signs of thrush yet, but the ped still started him on treatment. I've been taking diflucan for 2 days now and have been putting monistat on my boobies now for about 36 hours and it STILL hurts....I hope it gets better soon!!

Here I was all this time with sore nipples (about 4 weeks) to discover that the soreness wasn't from latch or because I'm a redhead but because I had yeast in my boobies. I was relived to know that the soreness was from something, but I'll tell ya - yeast is NO fun!

And lipgloss - I read that you should boil your bras in water every day and wash them with vinegar and only use bath towels once to stop the spread...sounds like a pain, but it probably works. I just don't wear the same bra twice and change my nursing pads with every feeding...Or I don't wear a bra at all!

Hmmm...I'd say keep trying to find that S spot, and maybe try a different nipple, it may be too long, and try those tongue excercises, good luck

So heres my thing. The end of one of my nipples, part of it is purple. Like a hickey. It doesn't really hurt. I know he doesn't open up his mouth wide enough, and he doesn't latch the best, but when I saw the lactation consultant she said he was doing good.
Sometimes I get shooting pains too. It doesn't happen very often though.

HI there my daughter is the same an dis on Losce medication of 2 mils 2x a day its a horrible thing , i know about the hitting and clawing at the breast but i found that it is really painfull for them to feed and to try and feed lying down on your side. Also burp as often as you can and sit in a quiet room , she is also trying to get the 'let down" happening.

I think they call it "charred" nipples, due to inproper latch. I have them too!

As for the shooting pains, does it happen when your milk lets down? I feel a small shooting sensation when my milk lets down as well.

If not, I have no clue. haha

When he bits take hm off the breast and close your eyes and say to him NO that hurts mummy , soon he will get it , they learn prety quick , and usually if they are startign to bit its at the end of the feed where he may be comfort feeding so you could take him off for a little while as they cant feed properly if they have their teeth in bititng pos.

It's not really that he is biting... just that it is scraping my nipple. Due to him being unable to stick his tongue out (the tongue tie). When he sucks it draws his tongue in just enough to uncover his gums and that's when I get that horrible feeling of his little corner of a tooth scraping my skin off.

my oldest son is extremely tongue-tied too but he lost too much weight so i had to start comp feeding and we ended up on the bottle full time from about six weeks, but luckily bub #2 isnt and we are up to week ten so far!
