Bad Toothache

Im already 39 weeks. and have a really bad tootchache. I cant sleep and the pain in unbearable.I want to get my tooth pulled out but Im also scared it will hurt the baby. Im not sure if I should wait until after he is born to get it pulled or try to go now. And does anyone know if I can use anbesol or orajel for the pain. Taking Tylenol is NO help at all/ I just hope to have my baby soon and I also hope this horrible pain goes away for now.  

i was told if you get a tattoo or piercing the baby could feel it, i dont know if that goes along the same lines.. sounds like a good question for your doc!

i dont think orajel will hurt the baby because you dont really swallow it. and i mean since your about to pop any day (congrats) i say just hold on to it for a few more days. call your doc and ask him to prescribe something. and i mean the only thing that can probably hurt the baby is the x-ray. because when they numb you it dosent really go into your blood. but im no doc, so consult one just to be on the safe side

I'd orajel the hell out of it, then wait til' the baby is born (yay! almost there!) and then get it pulled (or filled, or whatever..)

Yeah Im trying to hold on. Its so bad my ear hurts. It's only 7:30am and I gotta wait till 9 am to call the doctor and dentist. grrrrrrrrrr.....  

I used orajel on a cavity while pregnant....then I went and got the cavity filled. you can go to the dentist while pregnant....the only thing you cant have done are x-rays. The dentist will not hurt the baby.

I know how you feel all my bottom teeths are bad and hurt like crazy at night when I lay down to go to bed they start to hurt real bad its all in my jaw and ears it sucks but I've got to deal with the pain and tylenol doesn't work anymore. Thank god i go to the dentist next week to get some work done.

You can get your teeth pulled they just can't put you under they can only numb you up so much you can't feel anything (but you still feel something) so I'm trying my hardest to put up with the pain until the baby gets here so I can be put under when they pull my teeth..

yea but most likely shell need an xray just to make sure they have the right tooth, and to see the nerves and all that

they usually do a xray but you wear a safety suite thinger over your stomach so it doesn't hurt the baby. its totally safe!

I'd ask your doctor first because you never know. I mean, Orajel is most likely ok to use, being you don't swallow it, but you should still always ask. I know I was in pain for a year or so until finally having my tooth pulled (Wisdom), which coincidentally was right before conceiving. You really should wait until having your baby because you will need pain meds - and of course that's not good for the baby. You're so close and I know the pain is sometimes unbearable when it comes to teeth, but just call your doctor ASAP and ask what you can use to ease that pain. Letthem know that Tylanol isn't working. I know you're allowed to take baby Benadryll, which could put you to sleep and help in that sense. And I know you're not supposed to have any Xrays during pregnancy, being it's always the 1st thing they ask you prior to that type of exam.

Mmm, I sympathize. I need a tooth pulled and I wish I could use orajel on it so badly, but keep forgetting to ask... I just know that like everything else it has the stupid "If you are pregnant or breast-feeding...." >_<
I have had x-rays and a tooth pulled earlier in my pregnancy, they just double shielded me for the x-ray and used a freezing approved by my OB... The reason I haven't gotten the current tooth pulled is that I wasn't allowed to take anything for the pain afterward and it bled really bad and I don't want to go through that again :\

I feel so bad for you, but at least you're almost done. I had the most horrifying toothpain ever around my 7th month (I'm sure you understand, constant headache, face hurts, ear hurts, etc). I couldn't wait2-3 more months to take care of it. I ended up having 3 root canals (yikes). (And I have nice teeth - honestly!! I grind my teeth at night and apparently that causes the root to break down?)And I agree, Tylenol is a waste of SWALLOWING. I actually ended up begging my OBGYN for stronger pain meds because I hadn't even slept for days. I got Hydrocordo? Which was the biggest lifesaver ever. I'd like to think that I have a pretty high tolerance for pain, but Nothing is worse than tooth pain. Nothing. Hang in there lady.

So this was my final outcome of a horrible New Years Eve. I went to buy some orajel cause i couldnt take it anymore. But the orajel doesnt really help that much and besides its a class c drug. Meaning- theres no study found that it can or cant harm the baby so the affects are unknown. My hubby called the dentist for an emergency extraction (hubby was so worried, poor guy). The dentist really didnt want to take the tooth out cause he said its too risky at 39 weeks and that my tooth wasnt that bad. He suggested I should get a root canal. So from there I went to my regular dentist for an emergency root canal treatment but that dentist didnt want to touch me either. So I have NO choice but to tough it out and stay away from sweets, etc. I really hope I have my baby soon so I can make an appt. to start this root canal. Tylenol is really useless but i have still been taking it cause maybe it kills some of this horrible pain off. anyway, after i came home I got a few hours of sleep and Ima just try to stay up as long as possible so I can sleep really good later. Oh and to add. My (OB) doctors office sucks. I called them and HAD to leave a message and they didnt call me back for 2 hours and at that time I was sleeping. Hopefully I can wait till after new years and they can presribe something stronger for the pain. BUt I highly doubt that they will anyway. I CANT WAIT TIL I HAVE MY BABY!!!!!
