Marathon breastfeeding: I'm about to lose my mind!

posted 30th Dec '07
My daughter eats all day long. All. Day. Long. She's gaining just fine and wetting/messing plenty of diapers. I just can't get her off the boob for more than maybe 10 minutes before she's rooting again. I know that cluster feeding is normal, but my God this is about to drive me insane! I can't do ANYTHING around the house, which means that my 2 1/2 year old is beginning to wonder why Mommy won't give him the attention he needs. I can't even read him a book while he sits on my lap because he'd squish the baby. I'm frustrated and so is my family because the house is a wreck. I can't even help Ty pick up his toys or make him his lunch and dinner.

BF moms who had marathon feeding babies- How long did it last before your baby began spacing out the feedings? We're okay at night (3-4 hours between nursing sessions), but this daytime thing is killing me! Gwen is 2 weeks old and sucking down the milk all the time. HELP!

Is he crying and rooting?
If he isn't crying, you don't have to feed him.

Give him a binkie and let him do his thing.

Chance cluster feeds at nights I barely get dinner prepped and going before he is on the boob again. She is probably using you as a pacifier. Chance did that the first week then I offered him a binky. Best of luck

Quoting Tys_Mommy05:“ My daughter eats all day long. All. Day. Long. She's gaining just fine and wetting/messing plenty of ... [snip!] ... nursing sessions), but this daytime thing is killing me! Gwen is 2 weeks old and sucking down the milk all the time. HELP!”

Just be glad it is during the day!!! Mine is eating every hour at night.

lessee..... try using the football hold so your son can sit on one side while the baby nurses on the other. read him a book watch a show with him hell if youre in a lazboy take a nap with both of them!

it might not be a hunger issure, she may just want to be close and wanting to suck. have you tried putting her in a sling or carrier? mine didnt like the carrier at first so I went and bought a sling....I was able to help my toddler clean up her toys and do some dishes, etc.

your fam might need to suck it up and help with some of thehousework. Afterall the baby is only two weeks old. give the girl a chance! lol

I know its hard and aggravating but hang in there, it will get better
