Marijuana may inhibit tumor cell growth

ROSTOCK, Germany, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Cannabinoids, the active components in marijuana that reduce the side effects of cancer treatment, may inhibit tumor cell growth, German researchers say.

Robert Ramer and Burkhard Hinz of the University of Rostock, in Germany, investigated whether and by what mechanism cannabinoids inhibit tumor cell invasion.

The study, published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, found cannabinoids did suppress tumor cell invasion and stimulated the expression of TIMP-1, an inhibitor of a group of enzymes that are involved in tumor cell invasion.

"To our knowledge, this is the first report of TIMP-1-dependent anti-invasive effects of cannabinoids," the study authors say in an statement. "This signaling pathway may play an important role in the anti-metastatic action of cannabinoids, whose potential therapeutic benefit in the treatment of highly invasive cancers should be addressed in clinical trials."

So it appears that on top of helping cancer patients eat and keep food down, marijuana might actually help fight the cancer itself.

But hey, it has no medicinal properties and it's a plague on society, right?

People can't seem to look past the word "illegal" long enough to realize the benefits though.

This is funny,  I wonder what the result will be if/when it hits widespread American media. It's gonna be hilarious to see the machine of ultimate deception and propaganda that is the American media, go to work.

I'm so sick of this topic, there is no reason, at all, why weed should be illegal. 

The arguments against it are almost ALWAYS composed of post/cum hoc ergo propter hoc and/or slippery slope fallacies.

I can smoke my lungs black on cig's, and die of cancer, and they are still legal.

I can drink until my liver is a useless piece of trash and my brain is pickled, go home, and beat my wife and kids. And alcohol is still legal.

What the hell is a pot smoker gonna do? First degree assault on a bag of doritos?

I'm just gonna stop, this is such a hot issue with me, because it is such a double standard, and it is without any logic at all.

And yes, people are morons, illegal instantly = somehow objectively bad to alot of folks. Because we all know the law = justice and objective right, huh? *rolls eyes*

A good movie to watch about marijuana and how much the government is spending on the "War on drugs" is GRASS. It's absolutely hilarious, and you learn about how the war on drugs started...it started because damn Texans [I hate this state.] didn' want Mexicans in El Paso, so they made marijuana illegal and started kickin' them out of the country.

Anyways, check out the movie it will really make you say WOW....

I think that information is amazing!!! Hopefully by the time my daughter has moved out, pot will be legal so I can sit and enjoy a nice spliff on my couch ha ha ha.

My grandma had parkinsons and cancer but she was very anti-pot right up until she died. Poor Grams...

If drinking is legal why shouldn't marijuana be? I mean not to start a debate or anything but how many people do you know whose died from marijuana overdose? and well they prescribe it for glaucoma, my dad has it. Millions of people die everyday from drinking and driving not to mention the millions of other things associated with getting hammered....buuuut thats just me

the evidence of how beneficial it really is, is just overwhelming..

Mine,too.
But she popped crazy strong pain killers like candy. Until she was drooling and incoherent. She was stoned 24/7 on percocet and demerol and all that stuff.

But she refused to take marijauna from her doctor for the pain and nausea. She wasnt away. and eventually, she ODed on those fucking drugs.

The only thing that should be illegal bout bud is driving for a few hours after smoking cuz ur reaction time isn't as great. Some ppl, not that I would know, sober up and lose their high when they go to drive but then there are those that think you gotta smoke the whole bag.....some of my friends have nothing else to do...poor kids...haha. But even in baby books and shit they say straight up that no side effects of pot have been proven...that right there says,"Let's go get a bag" to me...wouldn't u agree? the government just don't want pot to be legal because it helps us do more thinking and they want to control our every thought! what a bunch of greedy assholes....I'm movin to amsterdam who's comming with me?! haha

I dont know why weed is illegal, but yet alcohol and cigarettes arent when they contribute to so many deaths. I just dont get it.
